Black Plastic For 02 YZF 426

  3. Here are the corrected links for the YZF timing page at: http://www.thumperfaq.com/yz_timing.htm Due to the limited searching ability on TT (i.e. no quotes, short or common words are ignored, etc.) it is pretty near impossible to search for an exact phrase. As a result some of these might not be the same threads that were originally posted in the FAQ. But they should be helpful nonetheless. wr cam timing http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60222 cam chain tensioner http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16929 need help with timing http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21817 Parts every where, help! http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21937 Please confirm YZ Timing change procedure http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17332 YZ Cams in WR http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23187 YZ timing and jetting for WR http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21893 YZ timing on WR http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19188 YZ Cam Timing http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70537 YZ timing mod http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20868

no swiss cheese on the 05's

Yeah, so can we swap in the grease from the newer bikes?

    stuck shim

I'm not sure what caused it, possibly just gritty oil getting between the shim and the retainer. I tried everything I could think of and eventually got it out with the glue. If the head was off the bike you could apply pressure to the circumference of the spring retainer, and put something under the valve to keep it from dropping. This would compress the spring and pop the shim out. But if the head is on the bike that might be difficult to do. BTW, what shim size are you using? If you are down near or below the 160 range then it might be wise to replace the valve(s) anyway. Probably not what you want to hear but it might save you replacing the whole top of your engine.

    stuck shim

I had the same problem one time, and I super-glued a nail to the shim then pulled it out with the nail. Make sure you first clean all the oil off of the shim, and make DAMN sure you dont get super-glue on anything else. And also (obviously) don't use that shim again once you get it out.

    Cleaning header

I used wet steel wool on mine once, and got it fairly shiny. It didn't look new but it looked a lot better. I would think doing that repeatedly would eventually wear through the header though, so take that advice with a grain of salt. Another option would be to just buy a new one. I've seen really new-looking header pipes on ebay that have gone for less than $40. Or maybe find a TTer that has upgraded to aftermarket and is willing to sell even cheaper.

    Missing Oil

Check your fork seals too, could be fork oil depending on the color and where exactly you found it.
  9. Thanks for all the tips so far. Honestly I can't afford a new bike right now and probably not even a new '04. I am fairly mechanically inclined so I can fix a few minor issues with a used bike if need be. I agree that hondas have nice handling, but I just can't see myself on one. I know it's a stupid reason to avoid a bike, but I can't stand the color red. I literally hate it. I would be forced to change all the plastic the moment I bought it. I don't know, maybe if I ran across one that was in nice shape with some engine mods and had already been "de-redded" then I would go for it.

    how high

If you're trying to catch big air on a crf230, i'd say you're pretty high.

I've also ordered from them multiple times and never had problems. In fact I just got a new pair of boots from them, ordered last Wednesday, delivered Monday.
  12. Anyone have experience with recent year models of YZ250 or RM250? I'm thinking about getting one of the two but I don't really know where to go to research them. Mainly what I'm concerned with is which has the better engine and suspension. I would like as wide a powerband as possible and some nice handling. I've never ridden either bike. Any years I should steer clear of? Any common problems? Any tips will be appreciated!

Or you could redirect them to another jpeg of your choosing. A "Gay Pride" rainbow avatar would probably stop the requests. Oh BTW sorry to continue this thread hijacking Mr. New Guy, welcome!

    Thor Force Knee Guards

In the past people have been cut pretty bad by the Thor Force knee guards. I believe they were redesigned in 2004 and hopefully they got rid of the sharp part on the knee cup that was cutting people. I have a pair of the older style before the redesign, and I have been cut by them before. BUT, it wasn't a serious cut and I was better off in the wreck with the kneeguards on than I would have been without them. Some people have used zip ties and rubber tubing to soften the sharp edges on the kneeguards. See this thread for more info: http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB10&Number=769865 And also, they can be uncomfortable. I've found that if you pull them up a few inches higher than you think they need to be while putting them on, they are more comfortable after settling on your legs. Otherwise they tend to sink down a little low and dig into your shins.
