  1. Thought I would make a thread for anyone doing a search or needing more info on one. I may also post my riding impression but maybe at a date I can really ride the bike as it's very hot this time of the year in the So. Cal. riding areas. Here are some pictures with some of the paperwork and adjustments available on the x10.

Oil changes full synthetic and back

Hahaha per your link. “Myth: You should break in your engine with conventional oil before you start using synthetic oil. Again, there’s no manufacturer we know of that makes this recommendation. Mercedes, Porsche, Corvette, some Cadillacs, Volkswagen, Hyundai and many other manufacturers’ cars come from the factory with synthetic oil.” Amg Mercedes, Porsche, Corvette and many more end up with Mobil 1 full synthetic as break in oil from the factory. 🤩

Oil changes full synthetic and back

Can’t say I’ve seen Mobil 1 European car formula. I run Waldo’s world Mobil 1 15/50 car oil five quart jug for about $26. No clutch issues for 20 years. Moterex and Motul is the stuff if you have the 💰💰💰

    Locating TDC Urgent

Um its also only two bolts holding the valve cover on if all else fails. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  8. Might also be a drastically different bore to stroke ratio. The new Yamaha is a bit crazy oversquare.

YamaLube vs Valvoline? Do they have a difference?

It’s just what the Valvoline oil change place down the street uses. I’m not picky about my trucks it’s just a truck and it’s just a oil. Now the bikes on the other hand all get the Wallymart 15/50 Mobil 1 auto oil. Five quarts for about $25. Never had a clutch problem yet and dump it at about three to four outings.

    H2H CRF250F vs. CRF230F

Remember back in the day (My Day of old) we didn’t need all the suspension. It was these newer longer travel bikes that invented whoop de doos. 🤨
  12. Yes the increase in piston speed on a stroker isn’t great. But my experience with stroker engines is you get more low end pulling torque. Especially with a stock cam. Normally I don’t like strokers but when you look at the numbers the Yamaha is the only one that’s so oversquare. The dyno shoot out may have showed more torque but higher in the power band?
  13. Well true but the 450sx also has a much lighter flywheel, larger ports, larger throttle body and hotter cam that the 450exc. I think the sx is more like the new backward head Yamaha 450’s. A top end monster.

    I see it. 🤩
  15. Long stroke on the 500 orange bike. Bore x stroke: 95.0 x 72.0 mm 🤔 The YZ450fx specs. Bore x Stroke: 97.0mm × 60.9mm 🤔 The 07-11 WR450 specs. Bore x Stroke: 95mm x 63.4mm 🤔 The KTM 450sx specs. Bore x stroke: 94 x 63.4mm
  16. I do run 43.5mm tapper bored FCR’s on my 450’s. 👌
  17. Lots of tuning. I did find a bit more torque to pull taller gears adding fuel on the bottom. I haven’t seen anything for a intake reducer. But I tried the GYTR head and a big bore and still no dice. Also put in the Hinson steel clutch basket. I finally gave up and sold it. I might be a bit sorry I didn’t go to see a cam expert. But we do 1,000 foot monster hill climbs combined with our riding out here in So. Cal. So I gave up and bought a 18’ 500. That was hard being a Yamaha guy. But I will say for fast riding where you might not need the torque the Yamaha ripped and handled very well. I can see that engine ripping on a MX track. I wonder if they really developed the engine for MX then just stuck it in the other bikes. The KTM 450 sx seems to suffer from torque also as we have had them on our rides. One thing nice about the smaller KTM company is they made the sx and then the exc 450’s. My understanding is they say the sx might even have more hp on top than the 500 but that doesn’t hold up in our riding. The guys on sx’s suffer.

Easy easy now I just put that Valvoline in my 100, mile work truck. 😉
  19. Try riding a 06-09 YZ450 or a YZ’d WR450. More torque you don’t have to rev it up to get to the next gear. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    2014 engine in 2008 frame?

If you do a complete rebuild use factory parts. Not Crank works aftermarket.

    2014 engine in 2008 frame?

The intake manifold looks too large for a carb but can be changed. The extra hole for the frame mount above the cam chain tensioner wouldn’t matter as long as the engine mount above the intake manifold is the same. The intake rubber might need to be blended to fit the intake port.

Gearing with a big bore kit

It’s real cheap to try it. We used to go a countershaft tooth on big bore bikes. But not necessarily Yamahas. I would say if your running stock cams that’s the first thing I would try then go from there.
  24. My 300 mile new piston, rings and small end bearing ride. Nice horsepower zero off idle torque. Useless engine in the dirt.
