So far you and Ed have shown interest. I'm good to go. Victor and others are doing a Piru Creek ride on Sunday.

    Red-line for the 500 RR-S?

That makes no sense. The safest engine speed would be 0 rpms.

    Red-line for the 500 RR-S?

We patiently wait for what you mean by 'redline' ? Highest possible rpm? Safest highest possible RPM? Point where more rpms yeild no more power ? A number given out by the manufactuer ? Can you tell me what the 'redline' is for a 2005 CRF450X? A 2016 WR450F? If you look in those forums there have been others asking the same question for years.......but that still doesn't answer any question, if it is not defined clearly.... That's because there is no such thing. Dirt bikes manufactuers are not publishing such a spec. It's just not needed. You have a rev limiter which is usually kicks in about 1000+ rpms after the useable power is long gone, and you are only into 'over-rev' territory. Is that the red line, when it won't go any higher? To me, no way. Running the motor past the peak power is how your wear out a valve train, especially if it's already got a lot of hours. Stay in the powerband, which is defined by your butt on the seat..... not a tach. There is no possible way you can read a tach when riding offroad anyway, so what good is this information ? You shift when you want, or when the power drops off. That is the answer.

    New 450 Motors

2008+ are all the same and have all the bugs worked out ACCEPT the kickstarter stop (it can fail, resulting in case failure) and the starter clutch (if you start in gear a lot, you start a domino effect of parts failures....)
  9. Yeah, but Slavens NEVER passes on misinformation, we all know that......
  10. Rings are seated in the first 15 minutes of high compression acceleration and deceleration (as mentioned). Beyond that, they are annealed and hardened, and there is no more seating to be done. Oil type does not matter enough to bother. Dry or Wet assembly is fine. Dry means no oil on the cylinder but you still oil the ring grooves. KTM runs the motor when new for 2-4 min under load, then drains the break-in oil, changes the filter, and puts in regular use oil. For a new top end only, you don't need to use the break in oil. Smoke on start up: Black, White, or Blue-white in color ? Black is fuel (from using throttle on a cold motor). White is coolant, and Blue white is oil being burned. When you start it up, do you turn the throttle at all ? You should not use any throttle on start up, and for the next several minutes. This will also allow the ECU to re-center it's adjustment range for the surrounding atmosphere. Ideally, you should allow the water to reach 190 degrees before shutting off, and starting again to ride it. If you start the bike and use throttle before getting up to temp, you cannot get the recalibration to work. Must be a cold motor, no throttle. Normal/regular start up, use no throttle for at least one minute, till all the metals are up to the same temp. Some guys even use WOT for 3 seconds when starting the first time. This clears the cylinder of old fuel, and because it is WOT at starting, the ECU knows not to provide a spark, and to provide only a couple of FI squirts. Works great for right before a dead engine style start.
