    1999 DR650 Rear wheel alignment

Thanks for clarifying-I checked mine and the cam adjuster was on the wider portion of the axle (spindle). It would definitely be loose if it was only on the threaded part.

    1999 DR650 Rear wheel alignment

If we can't trust the cam detents, what is a good way to check the alignment? What would be the symptoms of having the alignment off-I'm guessing uneven tire wire or handling issues??

Turbo City Adventure Touring Wind Screen review

Cool link-thanks Sarah. I'll post back once I get these brackets and experiment with different heights and angles. My concern with the TC shield is the upward curvature. I don't want it to act like a sail if the angle is more upright. Cheers, David

Turbo City Adventure Touring Wind Screen review

I know this is an old thread but I just ordered these Madstat brackets for my Turbo City Windshield and wanted to know if anyone has actually tried these with the TC shield (not the shield Madstat sells to go with the TC brackets)? The reason I've ordered these is because I noticed the other day that when I stand up on my DR, the airflow is much smoother and my helmet gets much quieter, so I'm hoping that by raising the shield and changing the angle it will be smoother and quieter. Even with earplugs, my bike is loud cruising at speed on the open road. Thanks!

    DR650SE electrical cable question

I was just on a web-site called electricalconnection.com that sells motorcycle accessories (mostly for Gl1800's). I was looking for a fuse block/relays to wire my accessories more neatly. They have a big selection of connectors used on a variety of Japanese OEM bikes. My GPS was originally powered by this plug but I didn't like it shutting off when the ignition was off so I rewired it directly off the battery (fused of course). Good Luck!

    Observations of New TM40

I adjusted the throttle cables (had too much slack), adjusted the mixture screw a bit richer (it was only 3/4 turn out), and put a little more clearance in the AP adjustment screw so it is now kicking in a tad latter. Bike is running great now:ride: Thanks for all the info!

    Observations of New TM40

I have the Procycle kit with the rings on it. It fit very well-just like the stock carb. Today the choke worked a bit better (it was cooler out), but it didn't want to stay on full choke for more than about 15 seconds-rpm's started to go way down until I pushed it in. It also takes at least 5 miles of riding to get up to normal idle speed. I guess it's just a cold blooded beast. I also noticed today that I get a little bit of backfiring between shifts, not just on decel. Lots of power though:ride:

    Observations of New TM40

I've had the new TM40 on now for a few days and have noticed a couple of things that may or may not be normal. I also have a couple of quick questions. Overall I am happy with this upgrade, but I want to make sure it's set-up right. 1. The choke does very little to help the bike fast idle at start. With the choke on, it idles only slightly higher than when started without it. It is warm out, but this is still observed with a cold engine. It idles at about 1,400rpm's when cold. I am using the pull choke knob that came with the carb. 2. There seems to be more on-off throttle transition than with the stock carb-the engine rpm's seem to drop quicker when chopping the throttle. This makes up shifting a little less smooth. 3. How can you tell if the AP is squirting in the correct direction-does it have to be disassembled to check? I have checked the adjustment screws and they are good, but I am curious about the nozzle direction. 4. In the directions it said to install the clamp on the air filter boot with the screw head facing up-I misread that and installed the clamp with the screw at the top of the clamp (parallel to the ground). Would this really matter?? I don't feel like redoing this if it's not necessary. Thanks!

    Fuel or Electrical Issue?

One last question on this post. What is the best way to route the 3 vent tubes on the TM40? I have them going down and back up through a small opening where I took off the CA emissions crap, and then over the top of the air box where they stop. Should they go back down again and exit by the swing arm?

    Fuel or Electrical Issue?

TM40 in and problem solved:thumbsup: Went for a 50 mile ride today after the install, and it runs great-not a trace of stumbling or cutting out. The throttle response is definitely better than the stocker (when it was running properly). The bike runs great with the Procycle set-up, so I don't think I'll have to mess with jetting. I'm not sure it would have been worth the price with the bike running well, but with the issues I was having, this was a great investment. I still want to know what failed on my old carb....

    DR650 - Unused Plug

I would recommend wiring the power port for the GPS to a non-switched source. I initially used the switched accessory wire for mine, but I got tired of the GPS shutting off or reverting to it's battery power every time I stopped the bike. Plus I also use the port to charge my phone when camping or on long rides, and it's easier if the bike doesn't always have to be running. I ran mine straight from the battery with an in-line 5A fuse. I have it grounded to the frame under the fuel tank.

    Front End Wobble

Thanks for the help-I'll experiment with tire pressure and then try truing myself. Do spokes on motorcycle wheels have a loctite treatment on them from the factory, or should they adjust easily?

    Fuel or Electrical Issue?

New TM40 ordered-I'm just sick of messing with this:banghead: If the problem continues I will know for sure it's electrical. I'll post again after the install.

    Front End Wobble

During the last few weeks (after a very rough off road ride) my DR has acquired a very noticeable front end wobble, noticeable more at low speed. If I coast and take my hands off the bars they shake a bit. The front wheel is out of true-it has about a 3mm deviation side to side, and about the same up and down (when spun on a lift). The tire is a TKC80 with only about 500 miles on it. When I got the tire mounted it didn't feel like this, and the balancing weights are still on. I have checked for free play in the headset by trying to pull and push on the forks while on a lift, but it feels tight and the steering doesn't bind at all left or right. My question is would this degree of being out of true cause this issue, and if so, can I true it myself? I have a fair amount of experience truing bicycle wheels, but I have never tried this on a motorcycle wheel. Thanks for the help!

    Fuel or Electrical Issue?

Unfortunately, this is still not solved. First ride in a week, and it started cutting out again after just a couple miles. Any other things to check before I order a TM40 carb? Also, don't ask me how I screwed this up, but I need to know if the fuel inlet tube is replaceable or is it permanently bonded to the carb body.
