    2008 ktm 250xcf starter problem

Undo the battery ground cable 1st, then undo the power cable to the the starter, there are 2 bolts on right side of bike, that hold the starter...undo these. Then go to left side of bike and using a wooden Dowl, or large flat blade screwdriver and hammer, tap the starter out the right side of the bike. Sometimes it helps to take the left side ignition cover off, and tap the starter drive shaft directly, to drive the starter out the right side of the bike.

    XR650R "no spark" situation

OK, pls forgive the nube in advance. I bought a friends 2005 XR650R about a year ago, and it probably hadn't run for another 2 years before that. He rode it when stationed in CA and NV, but since being stationed in MS, hadn't rode it once. We ride mostly Katooms and XC and Hare Scramble around the South. I have a "no spark" situation, cleaned out all the gas, carbs, disconnected and cleaned the kill switch, new spark plug, checked primary coil ohms @ ~1.7, secondary coil reads about 11.5k Ohms....are those close to spec? Also, I was reading above about a start switch?? I only see a kick starter and no "run" swx....am I missing something "easy" in the normal "start procedures"? We had also tried bump starting behind a 4 wheeler with "no joy". Thx to all.

    XR650R "no spark" situation

Motorider, yes, I confirmed no spark, first with an inline spark tester, and later, like you described. Does anyone know where to get a service manual for an XR650"R"?
  20. Bomber, Thx for the advice....will try starting a new thread.
