  1. When I say I cleaned the carb I mean I completely disassembled, set in the sonic cleaner, and put a new spring, washer and o-ring in with the mixture screw. The jets were clogged but the sonic took really good care of that. All the ports were cleared with a fine copper wire and with carb cleaner sprayed through then dried with compressed air. I'll pull the carb again tomorrow, hopefully I did miss something. It has to be some small port or something.
  2. Also, the spark looks good and it has a fresh spark plug too. I put oil in it and have turned the engine over with the kickstart to get oil down into the crankcase. I'm lost at the moment!?!?! I took this bike on trade for a CR125 that I had so I could chug around the trails with my boy, not to have to spend a ton of time trying to figure out what's going on.
  3. After pulling the valve cover and checking the timing, it all lines up.... exact. Looked at the chain and upper and lower timing sprockets all 3 look great !? Not sure what's up. After draining all the oil from the frame, and engine, I dumped approx 3 qts out of it, when draining the oil from the frame that it was brown but not separated like water in it. So it must have been swamped by the PO (POS) and failed to tell me this. Looking at all of the internals that I can see from the side covers and under the valve cover everything appears to be perfectly clean. Is it possible for an engine to collect water from possibly sitting outside for multiple years?
  4. Ok that makes sense I don't have a work manual yet, I will try and find one to download and print while I'm at work today
  5. I feel like I'm on the right path now and you guys help made me not lose it! Lol What would cause the chain to jump a tooth ? How can I prevent it from happening again? Can I prevent it ? I had an XR100 years ago that got the cam chain slider out of adjustment (I was 14) and the chain wore prematurely, As soon as I get off work tomorrow I'll pull the rocker cover and see what's up, and get a better idea of what's going on. May be a dumb question, the valve cover does come off with the engine in the frame right? Thanks in advance!
  6. It's a 2002 with the decompression lever on the bars I looked at both comp stroke and Exh stroke and they both seem off, I'll dig a little further tonight and see what's up.
  7. Well I'm feeling a little screwed at the moment. I got back from vacation and started screwing with the new 250 I cleaned the carb, checked for spark, oil level was good, kicked till my leg hurt... nothing. Checked the valve clearance which led me to this, the T mark on the crank and the valves don't line up. When I'm on T the Ex valves are starting to open (not right?) so timing must be off. When I turn the crank CCW about a 32nd of a turn it feels like the piston actually hits TDC and all 4 valves have clearance. I haven't pulled the valve cover yet. What's the chance of this? I'm a little pissed at the moment, and kinda unsure what to do next. I'm going to pull the clutch side cover and then the valve cover and clean out the oil because it was brown when I pulled the filter, but it didn't look separated like water in it. Suggestions anyone????

  9. Just read through the 400 Swingarm thread. When I had my 650L I would grease mine when I changed the tire, which was about every 1.5 years.
  10. 10-4 As soon as I get back home from a short vacation I'll set into her and see all of what's up, and I can give a much clearer picture of what's going on.
  11. I'll look at the link you posted on the LED Ive been a fan of the Kenda K760 on front and rear, that's what I've run on the last few bikes I've had minus my 650L (I had the Terraflex 150/80-18 on her) This 250 I just got will get the same tires just for reasons of durability and price along with good all around performance, good in sand, dirt and hard pack clay.
  12. First off clean the Carb, next the tires then I'm going to ride the crap out of her ! Lol Down the road I'll put an FMF pipe and re-jet, but for now I want to get my boy a little more sure footed on his XR200 I'm sure it'll need brakes and I think I saw the fork seal was leaking, other than that it'll get new grips and peel of the numbers Does anyone know what LED will replace the headlight?
  13. Alrighty then !! After a 5 year hiatus from the XR world I made a trade last night of a '01 CR125 to an '02 XR250 I think it's a fair trade considering it needs a new back tire and a carb clean ! Lol After hitting the trails with my son (who is learning to ride) the little CR just didn't like going slow, so onto Craigslist it went. Within 2 days I found this guy who wanted to trade, and here I am !! I came from riding an XR650L and loved it but she was just a little too bulky for tight trails, that's why I got the featherweight 125. Well that itch is scratched now and I'm back on a ride with a kickstand! Lol That's my boys XR 200 beside it.
  14. Have any of you tried www.mrcrankshaft.com ? i use this guy for my builds. He is fast and the best price i can find.
  15. Will work on gettin some pics up. Like a dummy I did'nt take pics as i went so it will have to be a few after pics.
