  1. Picked up an '08 650 recently.
  2. thank for the reply. Yes, cleaned it well twice. That being said, maybe I should just buy all new jets? What are people running these days with a 3x3?
  3. Recently I got my KLX (DRZ) 400 back from a 6 year vacation with the thief that stole it. It had the key cut out and some swithches wired in as a semi permanent hot-wiring solution. Seems to work? Right now it starts fine using the choke. After it warms up a bit it will almost hold idle with 1/2 choke, and will not hold it at all with choke off. It 'also seems to have a light sputter or backfire in the mid range area. This is what I've done so far: -Cleaned the Carb and jets and adjusted the float. -Checked valves. one intake was .02mm tight, so re-shimmed to spec. -New Fuel petcock and Fresh gas. -New Plug I'm looking for ideas? The next things i'm thinking of checking are compression, CDI, perhaps TPS? Any ideas would be helpful, Thank you. Brandon

Dennis. Yeah... not exactly what I said.... This is what I said: " This trail is clearly marked as a motorized trail, however it isn’t the best moto trail out there. If you ride it in second gear, no problem. If you ride it in third.... Yeah, it’s scary. I went back one day and rode it on my Mt. Bike. It is better suited to that, but I would hardly describe it as having “jumps”. It has a few rollers in it that are fun on a mt. bike and suck in third gear on a moto." My meaning is that it's not the best moto trail out there. But I have a blast on it every time I ride it, up or down, on my moto. Yep, it could be better for motorcycles. I, however, do not prefere to shout about how much it sucks and how we've been wronged. I would prefere to talk about how we might fix it. Kelly, Was I standing up for my friend? Sure was. Are you not doing the same? My friend did not steal someone's job. His job didn't exist back then. His boss's did. Again, if you're going to accuse someone of something, please do you homework and aim your comments in the right direction. That's all I know on that, and that's what I've been trying to correct people on. Lastly. Nope, I haven't been getting just one side. I have actually only talked to Jason once about this. He's more of a go build and ride guy than talk about it all day guy. Anyway, I've been trying to get a bunch of facts about all aspects of the discussion. I think I've exausted this pool. ...and it's left me exausted... I'm out It's obvious that my help is not wanted from a few of you on this message board. That's ok by me. Looks like most of you don't live here anyway. I'm not done learning about this topic, but I'm done here. Have a good day. Brandon

Kelly, I would appreciate it if you could do me two favors: -Please stop slandering and miss quoting me by using sections of our private conversation in a manner that is out of context. The person you speak of that "stole Rick's job" did no such thing. This individule was hired by the County to do a job. His boss might be a more appropriate target of for your comments. -Could you please also back up any claims you may have with facts. I'd be very interested to know which "...MTB only trail that was built by ATV funds?" Which one was it? Lastly, I'm not sure if you're calling me a Mt. Bike guy or not? Anyone that knows me would get a pretty good laugh out of that one if you indeed are. My last comment on this topic is to Rick. Rick, as soon as I'm healed up and able to get out and about I'll contact you and we can meet each ohter and have a nice talk. Brandon

Sorry, off topic: JC69... I used to work with a guy at Bob's bicycle center back in '95 ish. I could swear he was in on starting MRP, or something like that.... Might that be the same guy you're referring to, maybe? Or am I way off base? My short term memory loss might be turning into long term? :-/ Brandon

I hear ya Denis. I plan to talk with the County once I feel I have my brain wrapped around all sides of the story. I realize I'm getting more involved late in the game, so I appreciate all the info. I hope to be at Tuesdays meeting. Thanks Brandon BTW, Syncline (Burdoin Mt.) in not closed. Most of the trails remain open. The coyote cliffs trail (the one that climbs up through the trees, was closed because part of it was built on private property. The trail is still in great shape... It's too bad, it was a fun trail.

I'd love to go ride... It'll be a month or so though (knee surgery). No, I'm not Douglass, the guy you're thinking of on the WR. Again, my name is Brandon Backman, and as my signature states, I ride a Berg 570. Proudly! I haven't seen a post with your name on it yet, so im not sure who you are, but let me know if you want to chat....? I can't ride right now, but I'd love to bounce ideas around about how to better approach making the Moto communities message an effective one. Thanks

I know... It's very possible I have....? I'm not sure if your comment is an acusation or a question, bur either way.... I rarely go near staging areas, I normaly just ride from my garage and get deep into the woods ASAP! I rarely run into anyone out there, so it's not much of a surprise that I haven't met a lot of people. I usually only have 3 or 4 hours to ride, so meeting big groups just takes too long for my taste sometimes. I like riding more than loading & unloading!

Ok, at the risk of everyone hating me, I’ve got to speak up a little here. First my background: Yes, I used to be a mt. biker back in the day, but I quit wearing lycra years ago. Now it’s just the occasional downhill ride. I have lived in Hood River for 15+ years now. I have been riding motorcycles of every kind for my entire life. Most recently I have turned to spending nearly 100% of my free time riding dirt bikes in the HR valley. For me this means that over the past 4 years I ride an average of 2 days a week in the winter, and 5 to 6 days a week in the summer. So I’m out there, and I think I cover the valley well and see almost every trail on a fairly regular basis. Lastly, most of you don’t know or see me because I ride when most people don’t. I like it that way. Less dust and less waiting/chasing.... I don’t believe that I know Rick? But I have to take my hat off to whomever put forth the effort to build all the amazing trails that we have today. Thanks to Rick and ALL of the others that put time and sweat into a great trail system! That being said, I’ve been very disappointed with what I’ve been hearing and reading as of late. Most of the verbal and written dialog that I’ve seen come out of the Motorized end of things has had an extremely negative and unproductive tone to it. Over the past few months I’ve noticed a huge separation between the mt. bike and moto worlds. For as long as I’ve been in Hood River, this has been the one place in the nation where these two camps used to get along. That cooperation and ability to play nice together is leaving this valley at an alarming rate. This trend must stop! The reason that we all used to play well together is that most people that actually live here participate in both activities. I know that this is still the case, so what’s changed? I have a hard time believing that the reason things are going down hill is because of a new guy heading up HC trails, and three new trail builders.... That’s just my two cents. Speaking of those trail builders: One thing that I haven’t heard mentioned is the fact that at least two of the three County trail builders ride moto’s on a regular basis. One is pretty good, and the other is damn good. Also, bash on IMBA all you want, but if you want your trails to last, and not turn into fall line ruts, you could do much worse than the way these guys are building trail. And along those lines, if you want them to remain open in the winter..... same argument. If we have a problem with what they are doing, let’s talk to them and work with them, not just yell at them. I’d also like to quickly address my perception of this whole HC stealing ATV funds to build Mt bike trails. As far I can tell, there has only been one trail that might even come close to fitting this description, trail 170... aka Dirt Surfer. This trail is clearly marked as a motorized trail, however it isn’t the best moto trail out there. If you ride it in second gear, no problem. If you ride it in third.... Yeah, it’s scary. I went back one day and rode it on my Mt. Bike. It is better suited to that, but I would hardly describe it as having “jumps”. It has a few rollers in it that are fun on a mt. bike and suck in third gear on a moto. The tread width, like a lot of new and old trails in Post Canyon, is also a bit too narrow. Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that it isn’t perfect, but it could easily be made so. How about we all try to work with the county on fixing the issue instead of screaming at the top of our lungs about how we’ve been wronged. WE ARE NOT GETTING ANYWHERE with that approach! If there is another trail out there that fit’s the “built for Mt. bikers” description, please educate me! I would love to know for the letter I’m drafting to the county. Other than 170, I’ve witnessed some pretty good work out there. Things like: -The reroute of 170, not perfect but it got rid of the fall line climb that was getting more rutted every year. -The very recent reroute of 180 near Kingsley. Previously we all had to ride an illegal dirt road to close the loop, now it wraps around back to the Kingsley system with only a quick shot across the road. This is nice because, as you all know, the law enforcement presence up there has been on the up swing! -Trail 140, I’m not sure if it was the new or old county crew that rerouted that, but it was another good alternative to a nasty rut. -Trail 173, a fun little single track that gets you to 170 from Binns hill. Marked as a moto trail. It’s tight, but pretty fun in my opinion. -Lastly, all the ,oto riders, county employees, and Mt. bikers, and chain saw junkies that pitched in to log out all the ice damage from the winter. Great work. I hear lots of talk, lots of angry comments, and I know that there are lots of worried moto riders out there that only have limited knowledge of what’s happening. I’d like to see some facts. Help me out here people. Give me some real ammo so that I can write the county with something other than “mt bikes are taking over”. Comments like that will get us exactly nothing! All I’m trying to say here is that we need to make sure that our message is a productive one. We need to find a way to mend our relationship with all the other trail users in the forest. It might seem like we have a vast recourse in the HR valley, and we do. However, if we continue to slam on our fellow trail builders and users, we will find that recourse diminishing quickly! The reason it’s worked so well, for so long, is that most of the trails out there are multi use. If we pick the fight of separate trails for separate users, we will all come out with less in the end. The pie is only so big..... Thank you for reading. Brandon

    Husaberg Riders....Nor-Cal Ride!

Right on, Stonyford is pretty fun. I've been there a couple of times and I'd love to go when it's not the dustiest place on earth! Have you thought of Shasta-Chappie at all? That's a pretty fun place as well....

I would be interested if the location ends up being in the real Nor Cal, not the So. Nor Cal.... or as we call it, Central Cali. What were ya thinking for a venue?
