  1. I've been looking at getting a bike for a while, and I thought about getting a project bike. I'm a mechanical engineer with a lot of experience working on cars, but not too much on bikes. What do you think about this project (see link below) and the price that he's asking. I assume by the "brain" that he means the ECU? Any idea where to pick one up? Would the Dakar ECU be compatible with the standard F650GS ECU? Any other sources for parts other than BMW? Any wreckers carry BMW bikes? LINK
  2. It is electric start. Any ideas on what the problem might be? If it suddenly dies, it sounds like it's either fuel delivery or a spark problem.
  3. OK, so I've wanted to get into a dual sport bike for a while now on limited funds. I grew up riding dirt bikes, but I haven't ridden much in the last 10 years. I'm waiting for a good deal to come along, and I found this add: Clean '93 KLX 650 minor project street legal dualsport. Water cooled, electric start. Has ProTaper bars, Acerbis handguards with built-in turn signals, FMF pipe, new gripper seat cover, Runs strong, but has an intermittent fuel delivery problem. Low miles (2400). Doesn't want to start at the moment, but it does run well. We don't have time to isloate the problem so we are selling as-is for $1500.00 (firm), which is a steal for a big dualie. The weird thing is that it is actually a motorsports store, not a private deal on this. He said they got it in on a trade, and that normally they would fix it and sell it for $2500, but their shop is swamped and they just want to move it. I'm a mechanical engineer and I work on cars, but I don't have any experience on bikes. What is the worst case scenario for fixing this? The guy said that sometimes it starts fine and when it does it runs strong for a while but will eventually suddenly die. There were 3 pics posted and it looks clean, and after all, it only has 2400 miles on it. I haven't seen it yet cause it's a 3 hour drive to go see it. Any thoughts? What should I look out for? Also, what is the "A" distinction on the KLX?
