  1. I need new tires for my YZ450F. I ride dry desert and prepped motocross. What is the best option and can you give me a price shipped to 87110?
  2. I'm not sure how the 11 throttle compares with the 16. I know that my 10 and my 14 felt the same, but they went to easier pull for 15 and 16. The adjustment on the cable is only for slack and will not change how hard/easy the rotation feels. It sounds like you prefer the harder throttle pull that the 10-14 bikes have. The only way to get one of those springs is to buy an entire throttle body (ebay) and swap the spring.

    Non Union Clavicle, riding possible?

I guess I'll just have to get out there and see how it all feels. I'll work my way up in speed slowly. I had 100% no problem on my street bike with the insane acceleration and braking it can deliver. The only thing holding me back from doing a track day last summer was the thought of trying to shimmy into my leathers.

How has this affected your riding? I've already gone one 4 month period while it was broken and with no plate. I did some street bike riding during this time but never tried riding dirt. I'm not sure how it will feel or if I will be able to hit the motocross track. The doctor seems to think that as long as it doesn't hurt, and I feel strong enough, it should be no problem. The grinding of the bones is what I'm least looking forward to again.

    Non Union Clavicle, riding possible?

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. I've been tested for vitamin D and calcium, both are good and I still take supplements. I do not smoke, and very minimal Alcohol intake. Its not healing because I've had an infection since the very first surgery. Infections prevent the bone from healing. The infection is very difficult to get rid of while the metal is still in there. It attaches to the metal and antibiotics are ineffective once that happens. So the plan is, take the plate out, get ride of the infection with IV antibiotics, then in 6 months put a new plate in. I just want to try to ride during that 6 months that I have no metal in there.

What type of riding do you/are you able to do?
  7. Hey all, I've had a terrible year trying to get my broken clavicle to heal. I've got a second plate in there now but its still not healing. I got an infection from my first plating surgery and subsequently broke that plate because it was not healing. After 2 months of oral antibiotics, the second plate was put in along with a bone graft from my hip. During that surgery a culture was taken and later found that the infection was still present. I did 7 weeks of IV antibiotics hoping to keep the infection at bay long enough for the bone to heal. Its been 12 weeks with the second plate and its still not healing. The doc wants to take this one out, do another round of antibiotics, then wait 6 months to try a 3rd plate. He said I could try riding during that 6 months and see how it feels. Has anyone ridden motocross with a non union clavicle? I'm getting mentally drained with this and not being able to ride. I'm not really sure what my options are at this point, this has already been going on for 10 months. I've attached an Xray from today, 12 weeks in from second plating surgery.
  8. I broke my clavicle on February 7th. I went over the handle bars and landed at the bottom of a hill riding MX. I had it plated on Feb 22nd My Doc mentioned he had done a bunch of these with great success. The surgery went well and I was on my way home after a few hours. About a week after surgery I started having pain around the incision. I was also getting a yellowish/red drainage from the incision. I was decided that I had and infection. I was put on antibiotics to see if we could get rid of the infection. After 10 days I still had pain and drainage and it was decided to do another surgery to debride and flush the wound. This was done on March 11th. I went back on antibiotics Cephalexin for another 10 days. All seemed well after this. The incision healed up normal and I had no pain. Follow up visits seemed normal. About 10 days ago I woke up with some pain in my shoulder. It was not a constant pain but seemed to come and go. I knew I had a follow up coming soon and would be getting an updated xray so I just decided to wait. Yesterday I was taping a box closed when I heard an audible pop, followed by intense pain all over my shoulder/collar bone area. It felt worse than the initial break. I drove down to my Orthopedic office and they saw me right away. Xray showed what I already knew. My Doc believes the bone never healed because we never actually got rid of the infection. This caused the plate to flex over time and eventually break. The plan now is to have the implant removed and not put a new one back in. He's hoping the bone will stay aligned enough to heal on its own. If it does not, then after we are sure the infection is gone, another plate can be put in at that time. I'm really feeling like this all was for nothing and don't know what to think now. The thought of two more surgeries plus more down time sucks. Plus we have a vacation coming at the end of October and I'd like to be able to enjoy it. I'm worried not putting another plate in is not the best course of action.
  9. Good Morning, I'll be doing a 4 day trip in Colorado in very rocky terrain on my 14 YZ450. I'm trying to adjust the gearing to better suit the low speed riding that I'll be doing, so I don't waste my clutch. Are there any downsides to running a 12T sprocket for a short period? I'm only planning on running if for the 4 days, then going back to my current 13t that I usually run.

Dr.Mark Clavicle break, plate or not, with X rays

Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into it.

Yes, I've never gotten it wet since the surgery. He did say the infection was minor, so hopefully the antibiotics 4 times a day will get rid of it. But I have to admit I'm super nervous about it.

I went in yesterday for my second post op, a day early because of the pain I've been having since Monday. Doc said I have a minor infection at the incision so he put on on antibiotics. If it has not cleared up by Tuesday, I'll be going in Wednesday for another surgery to clean up the wound. I really hope it doesn't come to that.

Its been one week post op. How much pain is normal? I'm hurting a lot more today than I was last Friday, I'm kinda surprised its this bad. The incision is more swollen then it was on Friday as well. I have my second post op appointment on Friday. Attached are X-Rays of the repair, hope my doc did a good job.

Had it plated on Monday. I go in today for follow up and x-rays. Pain was bad the first day, but not as bad since. I'm just using Ibuprofen during the day now and went back to work Wednesday. I've already started some simple PT exercises to work on range of motion. Doc said it was worse than he thought once he got in there, there was an extra bone fragment. He said it was a good decision to do the surgery.
