    Motor oil....

Did you come off a 2 smoke? Like the other poster says, there isnt a seperate transmission oil. You just change the engine oil and that lubs the bottom end. I love the KX250F!!! I came off a 2 smoke YZ250 and the KX250F is an amazing bike.

    My KXF will not crank!!

Got the bike in Oct of 03. Already had all the recalls including the CDI done. Its been running great. It always kick on the 3rd or 5th kick ice cold and kicks over on the 1st kick hot. The bike has been running GREAT! So last weekend Im at the track, did some laps took some breaks. I was probably there 45 minutes. So I get back on my bike to take a few more laps and it stalls...which is odd because it never does that. So I give it a few kicks and it cranks and I get to riding...but I notice the bike is running bad all of a sudden. When I was wide open in 3rd I could hear "POPs". I stoped and tried to tweak the idel screw with no suscess. Finally the bike stalled and it will not start back up. When I kick the bike it sounds like it wants to start. OK. So what do you all think? Sound like dirt in the carb? Thanks for your suggestions and help.

    Motor oil....

Your going to get a ton of different opions in this subject. Search the forum and you will find many posts on the subject. The manual says ever 6 hours I think? Which would roughly be about every 3 tanks of gas? Some folks will tell you change it after every ride/race. Guess it boils down to the kind of oil you use and how much money you have to spend on oil and the type of riding you do. Do you trail ride or Motox? I change my oil and filter after every 3 or 4 or so rides depending on conditions. For me a ride is going to the track, doing some laps, take a break, more laps etc for about 2 hours. I think Im putting 45min-1hour on the bike. So for me every 3 to 4 rides change the oil. If you run the expensive stuff it can get costly. I found some nice valvoline motorcycle specific oil that meets all the API/JASO specs of the expensive stuff...so thats what I use now.

    Start it up!

I NEVER twist the throttle while kicking mine. I just use the choke when cold and when its hot if it doesnt start on the first kick I pull the hot start lever. Kicks over 99% on the 1st/2nd kick. I think going 2 and 3/4 turns out on my idle adjustment knob made a huge difference. Also...make sure you get your CDI recall done ASAP.

    ProCircuit Water Pump leak?

I make sure that everything is clean..no dirt around the housing. Then I lube the o-ring with some oil so it seals better. Then bolt it all back up. I doubt you could mix up the bolts since they are all different lengths? If the bolts were at 10-1-6... Longest one goes about 1 o'clock. Hope that helps....

Cold Starting, Man what a pain!!!!!

Maybe you need the CDI recall done on your bike?

Trying to figure out oil change intervals

I picked up some Valvoline 4 stroke motorcyle oil for $2.99 a quart and it meets or exceeds all the API/JASO specs that the expensive synthetic Silkolene stuff does. So I think that will be my oil of choice. From what I have read...normal car oil doesnt hold up to the temps that our KXF's put out. Are you all telling me that some of you run good ole automobile oil with no problems?? Thanks for all the help!

Linkage part II - what did we do wrong?

Im 100% sure the manual for my buddys CR250 says ft lbs. I just did my KXF a few days before with the same torch wrench with no problems. Must be that Honda hardware!

Linkage part II - what did we do wrong?

Update - Just read another post about this...Not sure if its a Honda CR issue or what. But the bolts can get correded and when we removed the bolts, they get ruined before you even try to put the bolts back on. The threads can get chewed up. Very strange...
  11. ?Im guessing it was the grease? Im not an experienced motox mechanic and just helped a friend grease the linkage on his CR250. We managed to strip 3 of the bolts on the rear linkage?!? The only thing I can figure is grease got on the bolts. When we torked the bolts they would go to about 45-50lbs and keep on spinning. So the grease must have cause the tork to be thrown off? (OK...laugh it up...We werent born knowing this stuff...) I have another post about how much $$ the bolts are....found a Titanium set for $60..but that is pricey.

    Linkage Bolts?

Anyone know how much the OEM linkage bolts are for a CR250? Yeah...I know this is a Honda 2 smoke...my buddy needs to get some replacement hardware for his CR. Any good online sites for buying this stuff? We found some Titanium set for $60...but would rather not spend that much. Thanks for the help.

    Rear Sprocket change?

Thanks for the input. Maybe messing with the rear sprocket isnt the way to go? What kind of gain would I see if I remove the backfire screen and use the flame resistent air filter some people have been talking about? Im just trying to get a little more bottom end out of the bike...Not sure Im comfortable drilling things out with a dremil tool.
