    Got my first ktm

I hear you on the handlebars. I have the Ram mount too and when add the light switch and the Cycra bars I'm at the limit. I'm running the Pro Taper KX high bars with the risers and I'm at the limit of that my cables can handle. I'm 6'5" so I've actually though about the ADV bars plus the risers. But I think that would be too much!

I'm up in Washington State so I can't comment on what the process is for California. All I can say is dual sporting one of these bikes absolutely transforms the riding experience-as you know from your DRZ. This is the first bike I've owned that has had that capability. As far as the seat goes, what ever works. The tall seat really helped straighten out the ergos which just adds to the fun.

Also, you're on the right track with a JD Jetting kit. It really woke my bike up. I spent some money getting the suspension dialed in for my size/weight. Added tusk bar risers too.

You're going to love that thing! Congrats! Now go get it dual sported and add a Seat Concepts seat and start exploring. And some new graphics.. (I love spending other people's money[emoji16])
  6. I currently have open guards on my 450EXC and although they do a decent job of protecting my hands, there are pretty delicate when it comes to crash damage. I have very large hands and when I've ridden my buddies bikes, the right side of my throttle hand rubs pretty significantly on the wrap around portion of the hand guard. I'm looking into the Cycra Probend or equivalent. I'm wondering if you can offset the bar end mount giving me a little extra room?

    what's your style in mud?

Yeah. There is no standing in extreme mud. Maybe for a few seconds but once you slow and lose your momentum, you're sitting and just trying not to fall. But yes, standing in most other conditions would be appropriate.

If you look closely, you can just make out my GoPro on my chin bar. I think I got about a minute of usable footage too!

I had the roll offs. Worked good for the first lap and then so much my had accumulated on the goggles that I was just moving it from one side of the goggles to the other. I finished the last lap exactly like you, O3Dave!

How do they account for someone who made it say 75% through lap their last lap? I just assumed that there were going to be RFID sensors located at checkpoints to measure how far you made it on the last (incomplete lap). If not, if you passed the checkpoint with like 15 minutes remaining, you could opt to just stop at that point knowing you'd never finish the last lap.

Yeah, funny the first lap wasn't bad at all. The second was brutal. I know exactly where you got stuck. I was stuck there for a while too. On lap 3, I made it through the fields and partially through the first woods section. I had a clock on the bike and saw there were only two minutes left and was about to enter another ridiculous mud and rut section so I rode under the markers and headed back to the truck. Not sure if that has any impact on my time or whether I'm technically a DNF. Don't really care. It devolved from a race into just surviving in those mud sections.

Well, the first lap was pretty good. Not too many guys passed me. By the second lap, the muck was getting ridiculous. My seat was covered in that slimy mud and as a result, I couldn't stay planted on those muddy rutted uphills. I'd take my feet off the pegs and just slide back..and then off the bike! I finished about 2-½ laps. How about you?

I was up there on Tuesday. As you can imagine, it was MUDDY! The forecast still calls for a cold night and maybe some snow showers. Hence the studs. The caretaker, Mike said he recommended studs regardless of whether it was actually icy. Traction is going to be a huge issue in my opinion.
