Okay got it.. looks like i'll be ordering parts in the next couple weeks... I surely hope I can get my bike back up and running right in june. Where's the best place to go for a timing chain?

No not when the bike was cold started. . When it was warmed up and ready to go. But my buddy who was riding with me when the problem started just told me that it was not blue smoke but white smoke So is it possible that I simply just blew my head gasket and anti freeze is getting into my head? I'm going to spray water around my head and see if I can find any leaks to confirm and I'm going to do a compression test one of these days so i'll let you guys know how those go

    Blowing Blue Smoke

Hey guys I ran into a new issue with my bike. I've been running my 08 490 big bore all of the last week but the other day blue smoke started spitting out of my exhaust... it ONLY does at when i let off the throttle.. not when i am on the throttle. I'm running 91 octane premium fuel and there is no way that it could be mixed with oil in anyway before filling my bike up. I just cleaned my air filter and re-oiled it a few days ago, is it possible that i over oiled it and filter oil can be getting in through my intake? Is it safe to assume that i need to replace my piston rings? I do not know how many hours are on the piston itself but I did have it replaced just over a season ago maybe a season and a half.. I do not race my bike i ride it leisurely but I am hard on it i don't putt around when I ride. Is it safe to say that while i'm pulling my top end apart that i might as well and replace my piston and rings together? And if that's the case then I want to replace my timing chain while i'm in there so where is the cheapest place to go for a new timing chain? The bike is parked until I can diagnose my issue and order parts.. frustrating to say the least but I hope I can get this fixed right away so I don't lose the beginning of summer for riding.. what do you guys think?

Sweet chart... would dropping my rear sprocket down to 49 teeth be that much more noticeable over 50 teeth or is it a minimal difference?

My rear sprocket is 2-3 years old and my front sprocket and chain was just replaced before the end of last season so trust me guys i'm not that much of a noob and like I said i do not need to replace the front sprocket only the rear. I figured somebody would be able to offer some somewhat valuable input and experience but nobody wants to contribute to the subject so i'll wing it and order a 50 rear I guess.

I don't have to change my front sprocket though only my rear...

Right now i'm running ironman 12 tooth front, 51 tooth rear sprockets on my 08 450. I love the torque and pull of my bike but I kind of want a little bit more bottom end top speed. Since I need to replace my rear sprocket, what should I bring my teeth down to to bump up my speed a little bit... 50 or 49?? I do not want to sacrifice all of my torque though so i was kind of thinking just a 50 would satisfy me
  9. Ok thanks I'll do that for sure
  10. Ok thanks Shawn... I'll order up some tusk discs and HOPEFULLY that's the last of my clutch issue for awhile.
  11. I figured out the clutch issue it was because my push rod was not properly installed... can chalk that one for inexperience. Anyways I got everything back together and my fourth and fifth gear is still slipping so I'm pissed off and frustrated and quit on this bike. I swapped in an oem basket and inner hub with very little wear but kept my original discs, hardware, and pressure plate springs... Could that be why my clutch is still slipping? I really don't know what else to do on this one.. I have no experience with clutches.
  12. Yeah I spotted that and figured it out right away but I ran into a new issue I got my basket case and inner hub put on but when I pull my clutch lever in it doesn't snap back it just stays in.. what did I do wrong and how do I fix this?
  13. What's dots? I'm sure I'll figure it out when I put my clutch back together today but I'm asking just in case
