    Carb tunning questions for 277.

I had the same problem with my carb and the 277 kit, got sick of messing around with jets and bought an edelbrock carb, bolted it on and it ran out of the box, the nice thing is this carb does not use jets it has an accelerator pump and all adjustments are made externally, plus if you have any questions edelbrock has a techs who are really experience with the XR250 and all modifications

    Horsepower and Torque

horsepower is just a bragging number , torque is what you feel seat of the pants.
  3. ochester, I agree with some of what you are saying, much of the time you read numbers in articles and you say is that possible, but I have to admit I was doubtful until I spent the money and had the 280 kit installed, was very pleased with the performance, had a rejetted stock carb on it for a year, no complaints other than dependable starting and poor throttle response, so I took the plunge and bought a edelbrock carb , I can smack the throttle like a two stroke and it responds instantly,if I do go down in the dirt it is a one kick restart I ride from 60ft above sea level to 4500 with NO jetting changes and the carburetor is completely adjustable externally, not to mention I gained seat of the performance all through the power range, I will say when it comes to performance on these toys we all love to play with there are to many performance combinations to gain power, it is just up to the riders to choose what they want And just to let you know your write ups are a little bit harsh towards something you have never tried but I am glad to here you put your self together a good running machine.

    looking for a used XR400

my father in law has a 1997 xr400 with many extras, very well maintained, you can e-mail him at turtle@koan.com
  5. Great e-mail, sounds like they do a little bit of home work before they release a product, but I have already learned this because I have the carb on my Bikes, plus I have learned that bigger is not always better, sometimes doing to much to a motor can hurt your performance.

more questions about eldebrock pumper carb

I asked myself the same questio before I bought the edelbrock carburetor for my XR250, so I went to the source on the whole KTM bad comments, when I asked the tech at edelbrock he informed me that the carburetor on the KTM was an emissions carb, with no accelerator pump, and If it wasnt for that carb During this time period KTM would not be aloud in the US, so KTM did not want a performance carburetor, due to emission reasons. so instead they offer a rebuild kit to convert the emissions carburetor into the pumper series performance model. for those customers that have those models. As far as the shop not buying the carb for you, that is no problem, I put the carb on myself with the good instructions that come with the carburetor, and I have learned that when it comes to experience you have just as much education on the carburetor as your local shop, I had it on in an hour paying close attention to what I was doing and following instructions. taiked with the tech after the install on any hints to starting he told me what the instructions said and it started second kick, now thatI have the hang of it I can start it on the first kick every time.hot or cold, I am very happy with my choice, good luck with yours

    xr250r wont' start after dropping

P888 , I can tell you that the edelbrock carb works, I bought one for my xr250 and the bike runs even after dumping the bike, if it does stall out depending on how bad the fall I just pick it up and it is a one kick start every time, it also gave the bike instant throttle response like a two stroke and made more power over the stock carb.

If you want someone you can really rely on to work on your motor you should call Barnums Pro products, and he will get you set up the right way the first time, the XR250 is his specialty, he took my 250 from 16hp at the rear wheel to 31hp and it was worth every penny, call rob at 17602476285
  10. IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO GET A GREAT DEAL ON THE EDELBROCK CARBURETOR FOR THE XR250R YOU SHOULD GO FOR IT! I PAID JUST OVER $420.00 PLUS TAX AND IF I HAD TWO XR 250R I WOULD SPEND IT AGAIN, I ALSO HAVE THIS CARB ON MY XR 400R AND THE CARBURETOR SMOKES ANY CONVENTUAL JETTED CARBURETOR ON BOTH BIKES. IF THIS GUY QADSAN CAN SAVE YOU ALL SOME MONEY JUMP ON THE OPERTUNITY!!

    Carbs?

ITS ALWAYS GOOD TO GET A OPINION ON WHAT IS THE NEXT BEST THING TO ADD TO YOUR BIKE, AND WHEN IT COMES TO CARBURETION IT GETS REAL TRICKY, ON A FOUR STROKE i WOULD PUT ALL MY MONEY TOWARD A PUMPER CARBURETOR OVER A CARB WITHOUT ONE, i CHOSE THE EDELBROCK QUICKSILVER BEACAUSE IT WAS THE ORIGINAL NO JET CARB BUT HAS A FULLY ADJUSABLE ACCELERATOR PUMP, IT RAN ME AROUND $400.00 AND SMOKED MY MIKUNI PUMPER THAT i REPLACED IT WITH.

    416 or 440 ????

I have ridden both 440 and 416 and I prefer the 416 kit by white brothers, using 11to1 piston, promeg E-series exhaust and the white brothers cam with a edelbrock pumper series carburetor I witnessed 41 horsepower at the rear wheel, then if you want to add to that you could stroke it but the bike I rode was not stroked. hands down the 416 walked all over the 440

    t.p.s. on the carb. ??

I agree you should try to dis connect the tps ,ive done it on three different yz and wr400 and 426 and there was not on differance, as far as the edelbrock carb ,you should go to the source they know more than those who have never tried them like the x400racer ha ha

    big bore kit on xr250

I have the 280 kit with about 2500 miles on it and it is still strong, Ijust make sure I change the oil on a regular basis and keep the valves regularly adjusted and have had no probles thus far, I chose the Edelbrock pumper carburetor and am very pleased with its performance, it has a very smooth power delivery and has a adjustable accelerator pump to let me decide how I want the throttle response off idle Its a good carb You should try it.
