    Which street legal dirt bike?

I have ABS on my KTM. I will admit, it's nice for when the roads are wet. But, the truth is, I've never actually used it in a panic stop. I suppose that it will pay for itself in spades if I ever do, but at the same time, I'd have purchased the bike if it didn't have it. ABS is no match for a competent defensive rider that doesn't ride like a jerk on the street.

New to TT! Just got my 450L! USED!

It's not only sprung for a heavier rider, it's also sprung from the factory knowing that some riders are going to carry things in soft side bags. @ 145lbs. I'd estimate that you're at least 15lbs. under the weight the the bike was ideally designed for and maybe even a little more. But, a respring isn't too costly nor unusual if you're on the left or right side more common weights.

Let us know if you get it licked and what did the trick.
  5. I'll start with an ABC, 123 mod for keeping your registration & insurance paperwork under the seat securely... Heavy duty, wet or dirty Velcro. Clean seat pan and KTM documents pouch with some rubbing alcohol to get good schticktion. Voila! This Velcro is tough (strong) and I really don't even have to separate the bag from the seat to get to my documents... not that I get pulled over a lot.
  6. For the following dirt bike parts, how much time & effort do you put into researching the product before buying them? Scale from 1 to 5 1 = Not much. Most of the brands found at the top retailers are all pretty good. 5 = A fair bit! I really want to understand what the product is made from and how it's built before I bolt them on my bike. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Please give your 1 to 5 rating for each of the following dirt bike parts: A. Brake Lines B. Brake Pads C. Brake Rotors __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Copy paste A. through C above and type your rating after each. What's in it for you?
  7. Thanks for your help with this. A mfr of these components just wanted to better understand how riders like yourselves go about making a call among the various brands out there.

    Why Not Yamaha?

I don't ride blue b/c they have no performance dual sports that meet my needs. I appreciate their support of the sport none-the-less. Recently I shared a press release about their support and got flack b/c they included support for atv & utv.

    Honda CRF450RX 2017

    5 reviews

The ultimate off-road weapon When it comes to motocross, our new 2017 CRF450R is huge news this year. But in the enduro, hare scrambles, and GNCC world, there’s even bigger news: Introducing the new 2017 Honda CRF450RX, the ultimate weapon for serious off-road competitors. At its core, we’ve taken our new CRF450R and optimized it for off-road racing. And not with just some new tires or graphics. We’ve done it the Honda way—the right way. And the results are, well, electrifying. Engineering Electric and Kick StartTalk about the best of both worlds: The new 2017 CRF450RX comes with both a kick- and electric-starting system as standard equipment. Having both options will ensure faster GNCC starts for the ultimate holeshot. 260mm Front Brake The CRF450RX’s large front-brake disc measures a whopping 260mm. You get great brake feel and a wave pattern that cuts down on weight. Front and rear brake-disc guards are part of the package, and are sure to be popular with off-road riders. Skid Plate A factory skid plate is light and offers the engine and lower-frame protection that a motocross racer demands. The smooth contours help keep you from getting hung up on logs and rocks, too. Kickstand It seems like a small detail, but off-road bikes can sometimes need a kickstand. Which is exactly why you’ll find this light, compact unit added right from the factory. Large Fuel Tank Stopping for fuel in a race costs time. With the CRF450RX’s 2.2-gallon fuel tank, depending on the course and how much roost you’re making everyone else eat, it’s possible to make it through a three-hour enduro with just one fuel stop. Engine Mode Select Button This simple, handlebar-mounted button lets you dial in engine power delivery character with a push of your thumb. Choose between Standard, Smooth, and Aggressive, depending on course conditions. Handling 18-Inch Rear WheelAn 18-inch rear wheel is another indication of the CRF450RX’s off-road heritage. Whether it’s red Georgia clay, Florida loam, or Baja sand and rocks, you’re going to find this bike offers the performance you need. Off-Road Suspension with Spring Fork Designed specifically for the demands of off-road riding, the CRF450RX’s new Showa Spring Fork and suspension components are fully adjustable and chosen to give you the ultimate tunability and performance in the field for changing conditions. New Dual-Muffler Exhaust System The CRF450RX’s dual exhaust system is compact and positioned closer and lower in the frame’s center to take weight off the rear end and bring more mass to the bike’s center for superior handling. Performance Dunlop Geomax Off-Road Tires The new Geomax AT81 tires are specially designed for off-road riding, and help the new CRF450RX hook up and put its holeshot traction to the ground. New Aluminum Frame Our twin spar aluminum frame positions the rear shock’s mounting point low, opening up the airbox area and contributing to a lower center of gravity. The frame geometry also helps give you more traction, and that means more holeshots! Cylinder Head Layout The 2017 CRF450RX uses a new “in-finger” rocker design. The efficient Unicam cylinder head gives you the design and performance of a double-overhead-cam layout but the compactness of a single-overhead-cam design. Scavenge Pump Deep in the engine, there’s a new oil scavenge pump. You may never see it, but it helps keep the CRF450RX’s overall design compact.

    Motocross and age

Turning 50 in 2 weeks and still ride regularly. I chased my 29 year old sales rep all over the Colorado Rockies on his 300 smoker and had little issue keeping up at 9,000ft plus feet despite living in flatlandville the rest of the year. How? desire, good sleep, clean diet, hit the weights weekly and a run each week. I'm nothing special, I just have some discipline and I work at it. I've had back surgery, carpel tunnel surgery, my left bicep tendon reattached and some nerve damage in both wrists. Solution? Keep moving and doing what you love!

    Which street legal dirt bike?

Cheaper today ,but more spensive in the long run? At least in my travels, used Betas seem to be listed for a lot cheaper than used ktm dual sports. NOT anti Beta by any means, I just think that cost is always relative to today and tomorrow. Lower seat height, yes! Not sure why ktm thinks everyone in the US is 6' 5"! Parts supply good?

    Advice on dual sport boots

For dual sport duty, I really like my Alpinestars Corozal. Decent level of protection, waterproof, hella' comfy and a decent walker. They've also proven to be durable.
