2 stroke vs 4 stroke what do you guys think?

When I am working on the engine I wish I had a 2 stroke but when I ride I am glad I got the 4 stroke ( LOVE MY KLX )!!! I am thinking about getting another 2 stroke just to play on....... they BOTH are awsome!!!

    Heating problem.............

Thank you for all your post's, I know it is weird it ran so low on temp but it did. I did change the head gasket lastnight and no change. I ordered a new radiator cap and bumped it up to a 1.6 for a 1.3. It has just cought me off gaurd I guess, I will see here in a couple weeks when it gets it first trip to the mountains this year. Also it is jetted for my altitude here and thanks klxfan I never thought of the plunger but it is good checked it out too............. once again thank you all!!!

    Heating problem.............

I have a 09 KL450R with about 90 hrs on it. It is a GREAT bike, always done what I wanted it to and more. Started it the other day to ride around and not a problem, went out a couple days later to ride it again and now its got a heating problem, it was sitting there warming up and my temp light came on telling me it was overheating........... I have a racetech set up and have it set up to where the temp gets to 207 and it goes off, well..... it was going off. I have a temp prob and put in the radiator to make sure my temp gauge was working right and it was. It NEVER got over 120 degree's when it would sit there and idle now it will gain a degree about every 2 seconds and keeps climbing. I am leaning towards the head gasket has a leak and going to change it, it should not climb that fast. Anyone have this problem????

    miles on the bike

I bought a 09 with about 120 miles on it, it now has 850 miles on it and runs like a top. I would NOT be afraid to buy the 08 if you can get it at a good price and has been WELL TAKEN CARE OF!!! BUT if you can get the 09 for $4500 that would be a great deal too but on the other hand if you are going to ride it on the highway the 08 is ready to rock on that!!! Hope it helps!!

Photo of my KLX - let's see yours...

Anyone have clutch problems with their KLX? I did, come to find out from the factory they put a extra washer in the clutch basket ( on accident I am sure ) it ran GREAT the clutch would slip just a bit when you hammered the throttle, it took me a couple of times taking it apart to notice it, now it smokes!! If I could fgure out how to put a pic of mine on here I would!!!

    Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha????

I sure was thinkng about the KTM I have heard they are horses plus right at the best you can buy when it comes to trail riding. Yeah I am thinking about going back to a regular race bike but I was wanting to make it street legal so I can ride it on the County Roads while riding in the mountains. I am looking at a 09 KLX450R its a sweet bike I have heard nothing but good things about it, all though Yamaha is hard to beat but when you can't get it to run it makes you want to go look at other brands!!!

    Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha????

Well for starter's......... I can't keep mine running like it should, has a "sputter" mid range I have done everything from ordering FMF jet kit to taking the carb apart ( 5 times ) well to make it short the ONLY thing I have not done anything with is the stator. The automatic compression release has given me troubles ( stuck on ). Just seems it runs ok at home and I go to the mountains and it wont run for CRAP! Lasttime we was up there riding I spent 2 days working on it and 1 day of riding ( we went riding up there 3 time and all 3 times this happened ) When it runs I would not trade it for anything, just to put it point blank I AM TIRED OF WORKING ON IT AND NOT RIDING!! When I had my YZF it ALWAYS ran good in the mountains, I know its NOT the jetting because my friends bike ( its the same bike ) runs perfect!
  10. Can anyone tell me which bike is the best? I have a WR and I am NOT happy with it, so I am thinking about changing. Which one will give me my money's worth??? I am looking for power and a good trail riding bike!! I do not want a DRZ or anything like that, I want a 450 ( I am a retired motocrosser so I like the power ) that will run when I need it and have good handling! Can anyone tell me??? Thanks, David

    Help!!! 07 wr450

Well so much for working "PERFECT" now its back to mid range cutting out, I have the FMF jet kit that was put in it ( before I got it ) I found out it does have the FMF needle but the stock jets, I heard you HAVE TO HAVE THE FMF JETS in order for the needle to work right. It still cuts out "HARSH" in mid range, almost like you are pushing the kill switch randemly, I guess I will order the FMF kit so I have the right jets if that don't work guess I will change the Stator and see what happens if not ITS GOING TO UP FOR SALE!!!

    Help!!! 07 wr450

Well this one even stumped the "Tech's" at our local Yamaha dealership..... they could NOT find anything wrong, they went from "carb" problem to "stator/CDI" problem. SO...... I once again took it on myself and found the problem ( by luck )....... Just a FYI to all.... next time you change your needle setting to make DAMN sure you get the spring back in that goes between the needle and cap!!! " Shade tree mechanic error"!!! Now about the automatic compression release, they had no explanation for the malfunction on it either. I took it all apart cleaned it and so far it is working PERFECT ( I will keep my fingers crossed )!!! I want to thank for all the input on what could be wrong.... David

    '06 450F whistling and steaming

You also might check your radiator cap, it might be weak and letting your coolant out while riding ( I have had that happen myself, I thought it was engine problem when it was that ).
