    Try to revive a dormant pig

    The pilot is flowing nice an easy, all the crap cleaned out of it, but still nothing. Im getting spark but no ignition. It started up first kick and ran for less than a second. Im done with it, gonna let my honda tech friend deal with it, I gave it my best shot. And it has had new gas ever since I tried restarting it. I am out of ideas, time to pay up.

    My uncorked 2003 xr650r sat for about a year, with no care and old gas. Before it sat it was uncorked by myself, and jetted by a honda tech and ran great. But now, after deciding to keep it, trying to start it is proving to be hard. I adjusted the valves and cleaned the carb for what I could, the pilot was full of crap. The bike will start every now and then, but will die soon after, and sometimes it won't start at all as if it wasn't getting any spark, but the plug has been changed. Are there any common problems that I am overlooking, or could I just need to really clean out the carb more, I am at a loss.

    choke was on, got ride of the smoke, but still not jetted right I snapped my carb needle in half trying to change the clip position. I'm hopeless.

    both removed and removed backfire screen too, seemed to help. I ride at sea level- 400 feet.

    put in a 170 main with no backfire screen and it sounded better at idle than the 165 did, the hesitation isn't as bad, just mainly at full throttle now. maybe a 168 will do, but that's it for today it's 100 degrees and I'm tired.

    On my 2003 xr 650r I'm running a 165 main and a 68s pilot with the stock needle in the 3rd position, bike is fully uncorked with a white brothers E2 slip-on. The bike starts on the first couple kicks with no choke and a low adjustment on the idle screw, the fuel screw is at 2 turns out. But when I give it gas it boggs down and dark smoke comes from the exhaust. I have main jets from 165-175 and the problem has gotten better the lower I've gone. I still have the stock backfire screen in if that helps, any help would be appreciated.

  10. 03 xr650r fully uncorked with 175/68 jetting and won't kick over. There's a little rumble but nothing serious. Don't know where the idle and fuel screws are now so many turns. Any suggestions?

    I just put on a White Bros E2 slip-on (which recommends no re-jet), and a precision concepts block off kit and choke plate. Now the 650r won't idle and took forever to kickstart, and backfires like crazy. Is jetting a foregone conclusion? My friend recommended JD jetting, any input?

  14. After life on a '03 drz400s and a '99 yz400f, life has begun on my '03 xr650r. I got the bike from my dad after he passed away, my little brother is getting my yamaha. I've ridden it twice before, but now it's mine and mods must take place. I'm gonna do the white brother's E2 slip-on, teraflex rear tire, maybe some pastrana high-rise pro taper bars. Any other must haves for an xr? My style of riding is 100 miles a day of washes and whoops, a little and I mean a little air, and a stop at my desert rose.
