  1. Get one of these - http://www.ktmforums.com/forums/duke/17290-2012-690-sd-o2-controller-mod.html - the only mod I've done to my SMC-R and it just makes it such a more predictable ride...

    New to ktms....

Nah, they are rubbish. I'll swap you my stock exhaust if you pay postage Just kidding, I believe the consensus is that the Akra system is the best for the 690. I have heard that the header is not such a big difference but the slip-on does make a noticeable difference. I too recently traded my DRZ SM for the SMC-R - it was a tough decision but now wish I had done it sooner.
  3. I get exactly the same issue with my SMC-R, with under 1500km's. I agree that it seems to happen more frequently if I am not assertive with my shifting. This false neutral feature really is the most annoying thing about the bike. I will be playing with the positioning of the shifter and maybe drop it down a notch, may even go for a shorter or longer shifter, but first I need new boots.....

PMSL, a bit irresponsible of Kim to not wear a helmet

    DRZ400SM VS KTM 390 DUKE

That would be a function of time, after one day I don't think I'm qualified to comment. But I will let you know if she proves to be temperamental

    DRZ400SM VS KTM 390 DUKE

I have just swapped my SM for a 690SMC-R - what is immediately obvious is the quality difference (I am not knocking the DRZ, I loved mine and it was not a light or quick decision). That 390 Duke looks like a lot of fun and that price point here in Oz makes it easy to get one; KTM does have some serious admirers. I understand that the 390 Duke is manufactured in India, part of the 49% Indian ownership deal and they are planning to make more KTM's on the sub-continent. Hopefully the quality will endure.

    Australian DR-Z owners thread?

I got mine a few months ago from teammoto, they had a special on both for under $300. At the time most places I looked at had to order them in but they were available. Would be too bad if they are not

I recently put a set of pilot powers on, you'll need to go with the pilot power 1/originals, the 2's don't come in our size. I went 150 on the rear and it gives a good ride. After almost 4000k's I love these tyres, they stick so much better than the stock dunlops. Not really seeing much wear on them either, some of the best money I've ever spent on my SM.

I have one of those and they are just awesome - more expensive than most but absolutely worth the money.....

    Gear slip?

I've had this issue a few times on my SM, drops from 3 to 2 or 2 to 1. I think mostly this is because I didn't change with enough force. But - I do notice it happens more frequently when my oil is getting to about 1500 km's old - gives me a gentle reminder to change it - newer oil and I almost never get the drop. May be complete coincidence....

If you are asking me? Yes, always. And inexpensive to run. I think I see where you're going......

    Australian DR-Z owners thread?

This is one of my harder decisions....but an SMC-R has caught my eye....so I have put my DRZ up for sale - http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/1024952-fs-2010-suzuki-drz-400-sm-bne-australia/ If you know of anyone looking for one I would appreciate it you could keep me in mind. I do so hope I don't regret this decision

    Australian DR-Z owners thread?

Thought I'd share a few pics of my pony.......a 2010 model but first registered in 2011. Probably a bit of a boring photo post since I've done almost no mods Here is my power outlet - manufactured a bracket that bolts to the underside of the clock and wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse and (dis)connector. Barkbuster VPS B&B Offroad Rack...I drilled a few extra holes and cut thread so that I can use S/S eyebolts to secure an old tank-bag....it folds flat and can take a fair bit of gear, mostly it lives on the bike but is easy enough to remove And just some more random pics for fun.... I've got my eye on the 690SMC-R so I may be putting her in the classifieds in the future, maybe I'll hang on to her, I just love this bike!!!

Glad you got her sold.....I'm a bit sad I did not have the means to pick her up for myself But if the real estate lady decides she needs something more sedate I'll trade her my stock, well maintained, white SM with pretty blue wheels......
