    Stock '05 yz250 ??

Agreed, it took 2yrs riding my FZ1 before I really noticed the stock suspension flaws. The '96 came with a PC works susp. set up for a 200lb rider (I'm 190) and has been fine for my needs. Riding will be minimal at best this time of year so I'll probably just go through the routine maint stuff over winter. I'm a chronic tinkerer though so it'll be a difficult wait to find out what, if anything, needs improvement. Lol

    Stock '05 yz250 ??

Great info, thanks! I was figuring on vast improvements over the somewhat lethargic '96! I've read up on the squish issues and with the long winter ahead, I'll have plenty of time to get it sorted out. Might opt for a port job while it's apart. Hoping to get a few rides in beforehand though, may be good as is for a while especially coming off the '96. Thanks again!

    Stock '05 yz250 ??

Looking at replacing my '96 with an all stock '05. Just wondering how these perform in stock form or if there are any 'must do' mods such as suspension, pipe upgrades, gearing, clutch etc. Mostly trail riding, with occasional track day but not a racer! I'm asking to help determine how much I'd be willing to pay depending on whether I will need to spend more for mods after the purchase. Thanks!

    96 yz250 advice

Good advice! I paid $600 and thinking if I do what I can for a few hundred, if I'm still not happy I wouldn't be out too much. I've seen a few 99-02's for around $1200, might be the way to go.

    96 yz250 advice

Well, my search for a different exhaust turned up nothing! Can't locate a stock and it looks like fmf fatty is the only other aftermarket available for the 96. They don't list a gnarly that year for some reason. Anyone have any experience with the fatty on this bike? Worth spending the money over the PC that's already on it? I'm also debating selling it for a newer model vs sinking more cash into it, piston/rings, porting etc. but it is still in very good condition. Decisions, decisions!! Ugh!

I would definately be interested in the Noleen if they have one. If you could find out and let me know, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    96 yz250 advice

Sorry, one more dumb question. Do I need to use a '96 only pipe or are there any other years that will fit and work properly?

    96 yz250 advice

Thanks guys! Exactly the info I was looking for! I was wondering if it was just me but 'boring' is a good description. I'll look into porting (what's eg?) and a new pipe once I tear I down. Also, did the re-jetting improve performance with the stock head or only after porting? Thanks again

    96 yz250 advice

Hello, new to the forum with typical newbie questions! Just picked up a very good condition 96 yz250 for cheap. Basically stock except for a pro-circuit suspension and exhaust with V force reeds. Could be that I'm used to the power of my FZ1 but it seems pretty gutless for 250. Expecting a nice powerband hit but it's just not there. Question is could it be the PC pipe? Is there a better one for this year? jetting is stock with needle clip raised one from stock, plug looks good. Compression is good but I don't know the history so I'm giving it a new top end this winter. While I'm at it is there anything else that can help wake this thing up? Or is this 96 a hopeless turd. Lol Thanks!
