Anyone here drive a street legal WR450 in CA?

Just a side note I bought a 2000 wr in CA and from the dealer, NCY, it was registered for the street, and had a green sticker issued. the dmv would not allow me to have dual reg unless I PNO one of them, and this is really bizzare, I got a refund check from the dmv with a letter stating I have a clean air vehicle.

    2000 Yamaha WR400

Start the engine wearing tennis shoes on the foot that kicks it over and if your arch hurts afterwards assuming it lit off on the first or second kick the engine is probably ok but a leak down or compression test will tell you everything

    WR Plastic Kit

North county Yam (NCY) can get you what u need. I just got fr and rr fenders and a fr num plate all YZ style from them for 60 bucks including shipping and its acerbis

    Odo drive eliminators

A YZ wheel spacer is relatively inexpensive compared to aftermarket ones

    Aftermarket Aluminum Frame??

If your friend has access to all the equiptment and raw materials needed to make it happen I would be interested in the development and offer my bike to used as a "mule" for testing or as a control reference. As for what I would like to see as a consumer: 1. a lightweight frame that is strong yet flexes where it needs. 2. Anodizing with all the colors for the "bling" factor to choose from. 3. Easy access to perform maintenence

What exhaust system do you use?

I run the DSP Ti "Doug Hennery" pipe Its kinda loud though, but it chopped 7 lbs. of weight off

    Magura clutch

I run the magura juice clutch with an ASV lever and it is the best mod imo. the adjustibility of lever pull will suit any situation, 1 or 2 finger pulls all day and for me its lighter feel than the cable. A yamaha TZ clutch lever from a road race bike is a good one for cable systems and is still available

Slow riding/when is hot too hot?

I have K type thermocouples in the radiator inlet and outlet and I have seen my bike at 180F when doing low speeds as you mentioned and at this temp I could feel the heat like you, no worries, by the time you grab 4th in a drag race acceleration the bike cools down to 135F or so on a 75 degree day. 12. I am looking for a tachometer that will survive off roading abuse and not be to expensive . I would like one with a couple channels, but one that will withstand a beating .As for as the tiny tach goes it sounds like what i need, but where can i find them. The tach is what I need to keep from getting hassled by the latest Db testing procedure that is confusing or unfair when running a hard plate.

    Oil!

I have used the Yamaha 4R from the start and I have no complaints even when its 10 bucks a quart. As long as you buy your oil at a bike shop and stay away from a grade CD and energy conserving oil.

tossing the airbox for a direct K&N?

The intake is tuned to use the airbox and incorporates a velocity stack eliminating this will change the power band and jetting will be needed.
