  1. My wife and I do easy trail riding. I'd like to find a good open face helmet. Sometimes our kids ride up front and the full-face chin guard hits their helmets which gets really annoying. I can't seem to find an open-face one that looks good aesthetically. All the ATV versions look too street like or spherical. I like the trials helmets (wulf or arai brand), they seem lightweight, but they're also expensive and its difficult to find dealers in the U.S. Does anyone have any good recommendations for light-weight, good looking open-face trials style helmets? Also I'd like to find something like this for kids - age 3+ I was looking at the G-max GM27 helmet for my wife. $40 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/G-Max-GM27-Solid-Helmet-Size/dp/B003CK379G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1413845137&sr=8-2&keywords=GM27+HELMET - Joe
  2. Does anyone know the first year the 450 exc came with blinkers stock? I'm kind of confused on the EXC I always thought it meant it was stock dualsport.

    Cylinder Head Wanted

Looks like we figured out the problem with my oil and coolant mixing. It was freeze damage. The Cylinder Head is cracked about 4 inches over by the top of the cam chain. I was wondering if anyone had a good used one or I'll look around for a welder.

Where can I order new freeze plugs if Suzuki doesn't sell them as a replacement?

    KLX400 oil and antifreeze mixed

Noble, Thanks for the info! So I tried the cheap fix and loctited it back in, put everything together, started immediately, turned it off quickly, added oil, then kept taking on water 2 gal. Filled entire motor overflowing... back to drawing board. I'm thinking the other freeze plug looked like it didn't set in as far as the one that was completely loose. So I'll check that today. What should I check next? Eddie, if I sent it to you what would be the first thing to look for? I'd like to try as many things as I can before sending it off.

Oh and then, what method would be best for cleaning the engine out? I was gonna clean it as best I can with carb cleaner, put it together fill it with oil, run it for a short amount, drain oil and fill again? Please help any suggestions would be sooo appreciated.

    KLX400 oil and antifreeze mixed

This last weekend I went out riding after buying this 2003 klx400 in Vegas. I thought I had done a decent job inspecting the bike before winter. Either way it started right up after winter in my scramble to get it loaded on the trailer for a quick backup bike ride for the weekend. We unloaded it off the trailer and wanted to check the fluids before going out for the day and the coolant looked low, so we started to add some. Almost a gallon later we realized something had to be wrong. Good lookin but not too bright we tried starting it to see if the coolant just needed to run through the system. Shortly after light green sludge started dripping out of one of the hoses up under the seat. We quickly turned it off and now I've started to dive into it. Once home I let everything drain and took the top off (I'm not very mechanically inclined and don't really know what I'm doing). I realized in order to get to the head gasket, which I initially thought had blown that I had to pull the cam chain off. I had marked where the cam chain was but the mark came off. So my first question is how to get that back on correctly. Once I got the top off there was a small plug floating around. Kinda looks maybe like a freeze plug? Do these have that sort of thing? Anyway I believe that is the problem. I was hoping to get some better advice. Whats the proper way to set this plug back. I don't see a part number to it on bike bandit. There are 2 of them at the bottom of the cylinder head, one looks to be set correctly and this one I've cleaned up looks like it'll just pop in, but should I use something else to help hold it?

    jetting question

I got it running a lot better. I put in a 148. but found the 45 pilot was clogged, as soon as I cleaned that out it made a HUGE difference. The only thing I'd like to fix now is when I rev the gas really quick, it spudders and I can kill the bike that way. If I'm more gradual on the throttle it's fine. I just can't 'snap' it.
  9. I just got a klx400e and pulled the carb off as it was running crappy. When I pulled the carb off it had a 160 main jet and the needle was on the 4th clip. A while back Burned had given me these specs to jet my drz400: 148 main jet (142 stock) stock dxp needle 5th clip (stock 4) 45 pilot jet (stock) 2 turns fuel screw. The setup for the klx is it has the 3x3 mod but the stock exhaust. Do I need to change these jetting settings with that exhaust and to run at 2000 feet +? Currently in order for the bike to start I have to have the choke on or it won't start or idle. I wish I knew more about jetting I just can't wrap my head around it for some reason. When is something lean and when is it rich?

    What's the DDM tuning setup?
  12. I put up a video just to help describe my issue. A while back I asked for jetting help. 06 crf230 6000 feet elevation - airbox mod, baffle out (will probably do rick's baffle mod) 120 main, 42S pilot and stock clip needle position. Not sure on air fuel screw turns... what should it be at? So to solve this bog is that the pilot that I need to change or do I just need to tweak the fuel screw?
  13. Thanks for the replies. As far as adjusting the fuel screw how do I know I've got it adjusted at the right spot? And when drilling out the the foam I'm also supposed to drill out the plastic as well correct?

    2007 Crf230

I purchased an 07 that had some minor wear on it in Vegas for $1700. Bringing it back up to Utah I could probably sell it for around $2300. Sounds like if you can get it for $2k thats a pretty good deal. I think your Girlfriend will love the bike. Its the bike I got for my wife. She was riding a ttr125 and the 230 is a heck of a lot smoother.
  15. So I bought a used 06 crf230. It's never run all that well and so I finally dove in and decided to try and fix it. Here's what I found out about it. The previous owner pulled the baffle, and did the airbox mod, but for jets it has: 132 main 42S pilot I'm not sure whether it has the power up clip. I'll try to find out later tonight, been hesitant to pull the whole carb off. I ride anywhere from 3k - 8k ft. elevation. What jetting settings from here would be best for me? I'm guessing because the power up kit recommends 45 pilot that this is why the bike doesn't seem to run too good. Am I correct? The other question I have is has anyone out there ordered a total replacement seat that is much more comfortable than the stock? If so what are people's preference?
