  1. buy the 2013 if you can afford it .( don't forget to get the programmer + comp ecu in deal) no worries on what was and wasn't maintained (its new) no carb cleaning or changes to worry about. (just plug and tune)
  2. intake 0.10-0.15 mm (0.0039-0.0059 in) exhaust 0.20-0.25 mm(0.0079-0.0098 in valve clearances are from the 2012 service manual , should be same for your bike as well
  3. what year is it?
  4. my 012 was just adjusted to 12 and at idle the exhaust pipe is cherry red for the first 6 inches when warmed up.. and if you pull the enrichener out at that time, revs will increase and pipe gets even more red... starting has improved somewhat so going to have it adjusted to 15 im thinking....
  5. does the Rekluse kit come with the proper calibration for the wr450? been thinking of purchasing one this summer for my bike...
  6. hey mike congrats on your purchase! these bikes come with a throttle stop , cant get full throttle...but first break in bike with the setup you have now..that way you wont be tempted to beat it til all the parts seat in you will want this.. larger outlet pipe https://www.yamahapartsandaccessories.com/product/details/gytr-quiet-performance-wr-muffler-insert?b=Off-Road+Motorcycle&d=20|20&f=2012|136. then read this to change throttle set screw http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/1027327-2012-wr450f-throttle-stop-screw/.. and then enjoy!!
  7. you cant program the stock ecu from what i was told....so you have to buy it and the throttle screw comes with the competition ecu.... yamaha had to de-tune these bikes so they would pass epa testing to be sold here in the states
  8. this bike comes with a de tuned ecu... to make it sing ..you have to purchase the competition ecu from yamaha ... about $100.00.. when i bought my 2012 i had it thrown in with the deal, along with the tuner...my bike goes excellent!!
  9. anyone know what happened to the kx riders web site?
  10. well, the only comparison i personally can give is.. it hit's a lot more controllable than my kx 500!!
  11. i would buy the 450... you can never have enough power and it all comes down to driver input on throttle anyway so why settle for less.. when if you run easy just leave in the stock ecu and when you are going to ride it aggressive stick in the competition ecu...i use the latter.. this bike rocks!!
  12. OUR STUPID CONTROLLING GOVERNMENT IS THE REASON WE CANT HAVE FUN ANYMORE!!! I REMEMBER A DAY WHEN THERE WAS MUCH MORE FREEDOM HERE BUT NOT NO MORE SINCE THE WAR ON FREEDOM HAS BEEN RATCHETED UP IN THE LAST 25 YEARS...aghhhhhhh!!
  13. if everything above wont work then the only way you will get it to start when it wont is shut it off..pull out the choke and fire it up
