Well I never found any obvious problems or clogs, but I guess somewhere between the 3rd and 4th time doing a tear down and cleaning I must have found that stubborn little spec that was causing my headache, she runs! I ran wire through all the passages like you suggested and also wired out the 45PJ and put it back in since the 48 was definitely too rich. Still seems a bit rich at idle but it is idling happily, once i get the rest of the bike put back together I'll take it for a ride around the field to warm it up for proper tuning. I pulled the petcock off the tank today too, it's clean and still in good shape, inside of the tank is spotless, so that's all good to go. Thanks for your help
  2. The most frustrating part is it actually idled pretty well when I took it out of storage and put fresh gas in it. I mostly pulled the carb to clean it because the float was sticking and overflowing and it was bogging a bit. I seem to have fixed those problems but created a different one, must have pushed a piece of debris around or assembled something wrong. I'll pull it back off the bike tomorrow and go through it completely again.
  3. oring spring and washer on the fuel screw (zipty) are new and set at 1.5, tried adjusting that but no difference. What do you mean by service the choke and hot start? Both plungers are clean and slide smoothly, anything else involved in that? How far should I push the wire into the pilot passage and or where will it come out? Thanks
  4. I cleaned the pj passage and put the 48 in, not much change. I finally got it to idle badly by screwing the idle screw all the way in but it's just barely hanging on at that point, opening the hot start smooths it right out. It seems like it's just not getting any air at idle. Could the PAJ be the problem?
  5. You would think, but all I ever hear from these 2 is "we can have one for ya by wednesday" Both are multi brand dealers with huge inventories of bikes but apparently no parts. I bought the 48, will give it a shot and see what happens.
  6. I just called both nearby dealers, one doesn't have jets at all, the other has a 42 and a 48PJ, but no 45 in stock, would going to one of those sizes, at least temporarily, work? Otherwise I'd be ordering online and waiting a week. I've got the tank off and using a clean aux fuel tank for now, but I'll clean and check the tank filter before I put it back on. Thanks
  7. Hey guys, I've got a 2004 WR450 that's been sitting for a couple years, it started and ran fresh gas but not great. So I pulled the carb and gave it a thorough cleaning and inspection, new orings where needed, got it back together today and it won't start without cracking the throttle 1/8 a turn or so, and won't idle unless I keep the throttle there or hold the hotstart open. After doing a bunch of reading on here, I was sure I must have put the slide plate on upside down, but I took it back apart to check and that's right (square edge down). I pulled the Pilot jet and checked it again, all holes are clean. The carb has a JD kit in it, 3rd notch on the blue needle, 170 main, 45 pilot, everything else stock size I think. Fuel screw is 1.5 turns out, same place it was when I tore it down. I haven't ridden it but it sounds good through the rest of the throttle range, just won't idle. Thanks

    Planned to get her a pw for her birthday on Halloween but decided to give it to her today to give her a few nice months this fall to enjoy it. First riding session went pretty well,this was her mood afterwards. [emoji2]

    Boots smaller than child 10?

    We're planning on getting my daughter a PW50 for her 3rd birthday in a couple months, so I'm starting to look for gear. Helmet isn't going to be a problem, lots of those in her size, but the smallest boots I'm finding is child 10, she currently wears 7. Does anyone know of a smaller boot out there? How about chest protector? who makes the smallest? I know some of the gear is a bit overkill early on, but I'd like to get her used to the idea of wearing it. Thanks
