  1. I got the new coil, this one actually tests good. No open loop. unfortunately, I still get no spark. My stator is putting out more than I thought around 27-38V into the CDI I am at a loss here I don't know what to check next. Can some one give me a guide through?
  2. Thanks mtoto! It was sold to me as an 89, had no idea. I tryed by poking directly through the case into the core, and to the ground. Still Open Loop If my stator is putting out 24-30 volts does that mean its good? The new coil is coming tomorrow, just trying to eliminate all possibilities before then. I see a lot of older CDI units for sale as well as newer ones but nothing from 87 88 89 90... any reason why they are so rare?
  3. Hey all I am a bit new to dirt bikes and motorcycles so please excuse any ignorance. I am a automotive fabricator/mechanic/painter by trade which comes in quite handy and I just finished up my degree in construction management. I picked up a 1989 RM250 last week. Pics to follow. Problem is it has some issues, but I am not quite sure where to start. The bike itself is in nice condition for its age and as far as I can tell everything is there, so let me just jump into the questions. The bike has no spark, not weak spark, NO spark. Plug is brand new. I checked out the stator and pickup coil, and coil. Here are the values I'm getting, with the kill switch disconnected Stator: across the two wires I get 113 ohms Pickup: I get 95 ohms across the red and green wires Coil: I get .5 ohms when testing across input and ground. Then from ground to plug I get open-loop (which I assume is bad) I also get Open loop from input to plug wire on the coil As far as the CDI goes I am not sure how to test it, if at all possible. I do get 113 ohms all the way into the cdi from the stator so I know the wiring from the stator to CDI is good. Any suggestions you guys have? Input? I am very new to this, stators, cdi, ect are all foreign to me its like learning a whole new language. Luckily I have a small background in electronics and mechanics. I am going to try cheapest first, I ordered a coil(20$). If its not that I will go to the Stator then the CDI. If its the CDI I am afraid I am out of luck. I will have to sell the bike because I do not want to be in a hole, luckily for the next owner I did all the leg work. I do have some other questions as well but I do not want to overload you guys all at once! Haha Thank you -Charlie
