  1. Those aren't the right clamps for the fuel filter either, and the one's that you're using may not be capable of sealing in the pump's pressure. You can buy the stock clamps (aka "ear clamps") from online places like McMaster-Carr.. I don't recall which size I ordered for mine when I swapped my pump and filters in my old 2010, but if you've got it apart you can measure and look up the right size... https://www.mcmaster.com/52545k45

    I haven't noticed the ABS dash light lighting up as I'm generally too busy looking at my line when it happens, but I've definitely felt the upward pedal pulse/kick that the rear pedal gives you when you lock it up on the street...

    2018 690 Bogging under load

    The grip heater switch... I had that same $20 grip heater setup on my old DRZ. Those grip heaters ate my battery when on/off idle riding in commuting traffic. Wondering if you've got symptoms of a dead battery. I put antigravity's li-ion restart battery in my 2010 690 last fall, and put it in my new 2019 690. the bike just explodes to life with it... thinking that when you rode your bike to the dealer the battery got all charged up, and then when you rode it to work it didn't get a charge so its struggling. When lead acid batteries go they don't have the cranking amps to start...
  5. Things that come to mind to check, some obvious. Bike sounds like overall its working correctly but its fighting something that's out of spec, causing that miss; cross these off your list next on your hunt: -fuel filter condition, both by injector and in tank, (if you see grey sludge in the tank, you will prob need a new fuel pump -CA Cycleworks, fuel filters and injector) -fuel injector cleanliness - might need to be removed and taken to a race shop for a proper clean, or replace with a new one... -spark plug condition, bikes always run crisp with new plugs, especially at idle. -battery condition/age (yours appears ok) -fuel pump. if your bike dies when hot, and will start up 20 mins later after cooling, your fuel pump might be on its way out. you'll notice it starting to act up at high rpm when hot or idle when hot, especially when you're low on gas, as the fuel cools the pump. if you hit the gas tank area hard when it stalls it may come unstuck and start sooner, but usually will start in 20. when the injectors/filters get clogged or the spark plug gets a bit too worn, the bike can run rough as its engine management assumes that these things are in good condition
  6. Your question is kind of moot since traction control was added to the 2019s, and the throttle control is incredibly crisp and precise, so if you've got a smooth hand its great. The traction control allows you to get so much more drive on the loose stuff as it limits wheel spin significantly, but the 690 just builds its power smoothly through the rev range so at low rpm its very manageable tractor like power delivery, and at high rpm it explodes and becomes a beast. You can ride some technical stuff on a 690, but you will notice that its not a 220 lb MX bike in really tight single track, and won't be as high strung as your 450 on the highway (but the new 2019 690's handling feels like a 450). The 500 EXC might be a better option for single track oriented dirt riding, but if you want a bike that can tolerate high miles/logging roads/highway without lots of oil changes, the 690 is the superior direction to take... and is one bike that can kind of do it all in my opinion; its got the power to hang with sport bikes through the twisties, be a weapon on the supermoto track, and also take you to work...

  8. Hmm, that sounds like a fun ride. Thinking back to every issue that my 2010 690 ever had, and imagining them all happening on the same ride, you might want to consider bringing a spare fuel pump, injector, and fuel filters along as these are all items that don't cost too much space. I'd do a full service/valve adjust with new rocker arms before you go, new tires, new tubes. I'd be concerned with quality of fuel too, you may have to bring some kind of coffee filters etc to strain dirt out of fuel... you'll find lots of info on advrider as well... youtube has some noah horak videos of 690 field maintenance from his adventure rides... dont forget your first aid kit, shop manual, headlamp, maybe some kind of phone charger and paper maps...

    Looking in to 701 or 690. What years?

    No one has mentioned here that there is a newer upgraded engine in the 2017/18 701 that makes more power and torque than the 2016 701 engine. This is the latest Duke 690 engine that makes 74HP. KTM also put the new engine into the new 690 (with some extra electronics). The 2016 701 has the older generation twin spark head along the lines of the 2014 690 engine that makes around 6HP less.

    701 Countershaft seal leaking from new.

    Older 690s used to leak from the countershaft for a couple of reasons.... When the owners switch to an aftermarket front sprocket, the aftermarket ones are thinner than the extra thick stock one. When you tighten up the nut on the stock front sprocket, it puts the correct amount of pressure on the seals behind it so there are no leaks. When you tighten up the thinner aftermarket ones, they can start to weep or leak, but this will stop leaking if you put a stock one back on... Another cause is the front sprocket nut becoming loose. It won't come off due to the lock washer, but it can back off enough that the seal will start to weep when pressurized. I suggest that you check the tension of your sprocket's locknut...

    Tail bag choices for 701

    There's the Wolfman fender bag, but I hate additional weight on the bike as it affects handling too much; I prefer to carry the weight on my body so it moves with me as I notice it less. If its only that that you want to carry, I'd go with a small backpack with a waist belt and a chest strap. Then you can always get that six pack to go with the chicken... The weight moves with you. If you go camping and load up a big bag fairly heavy with beer and your hammock for a road trip, drop the shoulder straps so it sits on the bike so you don't carry the weight, its just behind you moving with you.

    Ktm 690 smc r owners question

    Hi Guys, I'm getting the first service done on mine this weekend. The 2019 feels like a better version of my 2010. If you want to turn your bike into a wheeling beast (TC has anti-wheelie/anti-spin for better drive out of corners), this is the procedure to turn off TC: 1. Start the bike. The TC/ABS and ride mode lights will all be on. This is normal. Let the bike idle and warm up. I wait until I can feel some heat from the exhaust on my hand just to ensure that the oil has lubed up everything in the head. 2. Once warm, slip the clutch and start riding. The bike needs to roll a bit and get a bit faster than a jogging pace for the lights to turn off. Accelerate until the ABS and TC lights go off (to let you know that they're functioning), and then once they're off, this is the point that TC can be switched off. Pull over to a stop, clutch in, and hold the top TC button for 3-5 seconds with no throttle (I've been pulling over and reaching over with my right thumb since my left is holding the clutch in), and then remove your finger from the TC button and there's a slight pause and the TC light will light up just below it, signifying that its off. 3. Release your inner savage and switch over to Map 2 for the supermoto map and unleash the beast On another note, I've noticed that I have to adjust my shift lever position on its spindle, as per the manual, as I've had the bike pop out of first gear a few times from what I assume is due to bumping and activating the quick shifter lever with my foot while the front was coming up...

    2019 KTM 690 SMCR Supermoto Video

    I did a research project about ten years ago basically about shift force and the rider's backgrounds, with interesting results. There's almost no one in the middle; most guys from a dirt background stomp their shifts, while the guys with a street background gently caress the shift lever. The 690 seems to work best when shifted firmly, as if you don't shift with enough force the transmission doesn't fully complete the gear engagement and you find neutral. Guys from a street background generally have a lighter shift force, mostly due to their riding background as the boots used in each sport are dramatically different. The dirt boots have no feel so riders with this background generally stomp the shifts to make sure that the bike does indeed change gears. I just sold my 2010 690SMC, but it shifted with identical force to my new 2019.

    Ktm 690 smc r owners question

    Mine was behaving the same way and I haven't always been able to turn it off when i tried a few times prior, but yesterday it magically switched off when i tried. I was idling at a light in neutral and tried it, hands off the throttle, held the button for 3 seconds, removed finger, waited a moment, then the TC light came on. first time i rolled on the gas with it off the front end floated up into a long wheelie that i had to tell myself to put down... By the way, you've got it backwards; When TC is on, the light is off, when TC is off, the TC light turns on.
