"OVER THE HILL" (and seasoned) TRAIL RIDERS exchange

The La Porte to Poker Flat is cool. I just did it about 3 months ago. It's a steep sumbitch down to poker flat. When we got there, we went left and it runs into Sunshine Trail. It's a mo-fo even on my i.t 200. I don't recommend taking and D.S on it. It will take you into Downieville. But we did a loop and came back to Poker Flat from the opposite direction. The last hill coming into Poker Flat there was a couple guys on some big Triumphs, Tiger?? I think, trying to go up. One guy had his bike a t the top already and trying to help his buddy. We watched 2 attempts and split. It's a steep assed jeep trail that a normal,no lift, 4x4 probably wouldn't make it. It's pretty easy on a trail bike. Going back up from Poker Flat is a steep rocky bitch. The first 200 yards or so are the worst. When we came back up I fell twice. But, my old 200 was stuck in 1st gear so I had to go so slow, it made it worse. Heavy said he's all in for that stuff. Hope you guys make it!

In our conversation he mentioned this booklet that I have used. I'm familiar with a good portion of it. It's not really Tahoe, tho. Lol Be awesome if it works out!

Heavy pm'ed me about some areas to ride next year. If he sticks to his plan, you guys won't be far from me. While I don't D.S, I would love to meet up and show you guys around on some doable trails.

    The 450 Killer!!!! The 2011 YZ490

As the owner of a frankenbike myself this thread is really cool. I read all 10 pages! I have to wonder tho, if all the work to water cool the engine is worth it. I have an i.t 465 in a yz 250f frame and it never, never overheats, pings or anything. However I ride trails, woods, etc. Hardly ever spend any time at WOT. I did go to Pismo once and it was pinging bad. I realized that since I ride at 2500 to 4000' elevation that I had to do some jetting. With that being said my frankie has outrun several modern 450's when there's enough room to get into the upper reaches of 4th and into 5th. A while back we were out riding and we saw a couple guys that we kinda know unloading. We stopped and chatted and they were asking directions of the upper sections of the trails. Anyway, a couple hours later we run into them and they asked if they could tag with us as they didn't really know the way back. I'm leading the group of 5 or 6. Coming down a muddy hill, I stall it. No e-start for me. SO, they all pass me. The last guy on KTM 450. We get down to the bottom of the hill and last stretch is jeep trail. The guy in front of me starts really gettin it. So, I'm hangin with him, he gets a little outta shape on a turn. I know this trail well. Hehe. I get alongside him and there is a semi-straight section immediatley ahead. WOT!!! I hit 4th, wound the piss out of her, and into 5th and bye-bye punkin! I'm getting adrenaline shakes typing this!!! So ,we get to where the 2 guys are parked and we stop and take a little break. I see the KTM guy non-chalantly checking out my bike with a "WTF is that" look on his face. My bike looked like doo-doo at he time. Couple of my buddies have wr 450's and frankie walks away from them. It kills my buddies 300 also. Earlier this year I stripped it down, powder coated the frame, new plastics, etc

To all the Tomac Fan Boys

How much of the million did Tomac share with his team mate for letting him "win"?

I'm not looking to spend that much. If I was I would probably spend that on a 2 year old Yamaha or Honda first. So, you have one of those?

I have an i.t 200 and it's a great trail bike. Solid, very dependable, easy to work on, but, it's just so old and old tech. I'd love to replace it with another 200 stroke, but, I don't care for Kawasakis too much. Even tho I know the kdx's are great bikes. I stumbled upon this. It's not too far from me. Looks to be in great shape. https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/1992-Yamaha-WR200-R-5005121176

    setting sag

Well, that sucks. I aint getting rid of the bike, that's for sure. I may have to just bite it and buy an old set of forks for maybe 100 or less. It's only money, right?
