    97 XR100R rear suspension problem

Thanks, Chad. I'll do a search for the All Balls kit. What about the shock? Should I consider finding a newer used replacement?

I love my little Sherpa! It takes me everywhere I want to go, paved or not! Easy to maintain and easy to ride.

  4. I picked up a very used '97 XR100R last winter from a charity donation center for my son to learn on. It ran, I spruced it up a little bit and my son rode it all summer. He's grown over the summer and I started looking at a larger bike for him. I measured the seat height of his 100 and found it's only 28 1/2 inches high. Every source I've found, including the Haynes manual I bought, said it should be 2 inches higher than that. So I started looking at the bike a bit closer. When I lift up on the back end of the bike, there's almost 2 inches of free play (drop) in the swing arm before the rear tire comes off the floor. In other words, when I lift up on the frame under the seat, the frame lifts up almost 2 inches before the weight of the swing arm and rear tire come into play and come off the ground (I hope that makes sense). What's causing all that slop in the back of the bike and what should I dig into first to repair it and restore the the bike to it's proper height and suspension travel? I'm handy with wrenches but this will be the first dirt bike suspension I've torn into. Thanks.
