DRZ 400 Dies at idle after riding.

So, so far the new needle and adjustments to the carb are working the only other problem is..... My roasted stator... and my Gear Selector Switch Base Sensor Neutral Safety cable has quite a few wires frying. Do you have any recommendation on were I should get a new stator and cable? I found an ebay posting for the gear cablehttp://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-13-DRZ400S-DRZ-400S-400SM-Gear-Selector-Switch-Base-Sensor-Neutral-Safety-/172126755974?hash=item28138ddc86:g:C18AAOSwYIhWjppd&vxp=mtr

The problem with it dieing was due to it flooding. The needle was letting gas pass and was even flooding the air box and leaking out from under the air filter. Another problem was that my stator was TOASTED. Did a full carb rebuild and it would run just started having eletrical issues due to the stator being toasted. Here is the forum post http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/1165935-drz-400-dies-at-idle-after-riding/

45-60 mph for around 35 minutes. And no, I had the idle screw all the way down so the butterfly valve was completely closed. She starts on the first spark and stays idling. The battery isn't get charged so probably need a new stator. I haven't ordered a petcock yet because they all have 90 degree angles or vacuum lines. I haven't checked valve clearances. I'll be taking her to a shop anyway and I'll just have them check everything. I need new tires, chain, sprockets, oil, and have them check the electrical problems and valve clearances too.

Yes, the raptor is bad with stock tank unless you get the straight drop down one which I couldn't find. The carb is plugged I just took a picture of what it looks like with out it. Yes, the fuel was leaking from the air box and the air filter doesn't reek of gas. I took the bike for a 40 minute spin and didn't have any problems beside the battery isn't getting charged anymore. What needle valve specifically? I did replace everything in the carb and it's no longer leaking to my knowledge.

Alright so I got it all put back together and the bike will not idle with out being choked/throttled. I'm not sure about the fuel leaks, I'll find out tomorrow. I can start the bike with a half or full choke or with throttle and sometimes it will start with no choke/throttle but will die shortly after. Maybe the throttle stop screw/idle speed/fuel mixture screw is off? Also I'm thinking it might be a stater problem as the battery won't charge while the bike's on. I took it for a 30 minute ride and the battery died once I tried starting it again back in the garage. I only had the starter going for 10 seconds before it died. Not continuously. I'll check tomorrow if the battery is getting charged or not with a volt meter. The battery is only three months old and in good condition either way my wallet is going to suffer. Other than that I'm clueless. Here are some picture of the fuel leak and new petcock.

DRZ400S fuel petcock replacement with pictures

    Thank you kind sir
  7. HA, my bike started acting up after rear ending a car so I found something to do. Some how I didn't crash and the back wheel came 1-3 inches off the ground! Almost got tossed over the bars.

Alright so I finally got around to this and when putting the carb back in I noticed that my raptor petcock doesn't have a valve for the vacuum line. Do I remove the line from the carb or do I just plug it and leave it hanging?

I'm just running into this question myself. How did you deal with it?
  10. What did you do about the vacuum hose?

I took the carb apart and am cleaning it. Ordered New petcock and carb kit. Here are some pics.

Yes, the oil reeks of gas. So I need a new petcock that has OFF. What do I need to look at/replace in the carburetor.
  13. So, I will go to ride early in the morning and I will have to full choke(No throttle) the bike to start it up(because it's cold). I'll let it idle for 5-10 minutes or so and take off. After 10-15 minutes of riding it will start to chug at idel(Stop sign or red light) and die unless you give it some throttle. If the bike does die it will only start if you give it FULL throttle and even then sometimes it doesn't start(had to trailer it home). Completely stock with 15,000 miles. It's probably a carburetor problem, but I wanted to see what you guys think.
