  1. There are lots of good jobs out there for people who are willing to put in the time and effort to make them great career choices. The thing is that it takes time to get to get to the point where you are "comfortable". Some get there faster than others but I bet most who responded here had to put in considerable time to get where they are now. It took me close to 20 years to be in that comfort zone where there was much money left over after meeting all the bills, etc. I still only have the weekends to ride. You can't go wrong with more education no matter what you end up doing. I'm a marketing guy but no lots of opportunity in that field at the entry level. Maybe the military is a good career path to stay on.
  2. Agreed. Clearly if you want to live in CA it's best to follow the rules. It's just too bad some of the regulations seem to be over the top. Beautiful state though.
  3. I wonder if anyone ever tried to recreate this sticker and have it printed at a local sign shop that did high quality vinyl? What if the original sticker was damaged and had to be replaced. I'm sure Beta has a part number for it and could send out a replacement for a Cali bike!?

I'm fortunate to have a good dealer. Shout out to South Mountain Cycle in Dillsburg, PA. It also helps that I'm only three miles away.

I agree. That is tranny oil unless you used something other than Motul on your oil change.

Update. Bike is back and I went for a ride. 40 minutes into the ride I started getting flameouts. Barely made it home. Took it back to the dealer and it was just a kinked fuel line. I'm going to ride it again today with fingers crossed. I haven't pulled the skid plate yet but I will once I get a couple hours on it.

Yeah, I'mnot sure a new engine is really better than a new gasket. Now I have to go through break in again. My dealer told me he was going to cover the 3 hour service at no charge. Plus, now my mileage/hours regarding service is fouled up so I have to add/substract to determine intervals. That'll go away eventually when intervals get longer.

Update: Bike is in the shop now with a new motor installed, waiting an electrical plug the mechanic broke in the swap out process. Good timing for me as I can't ride for a week or so after some minor hand surgery. It seems this oil leak is more prevalent than it might appear. With all the dirt on the bottom and the skid plate, it was just by chance that I found mine. Although I am fairly anal about keeping the bike clean so I will notice things that others might not. I'll report again once I start breaking in another engine.

R & R on a clutch is not too tough. I had mine out on my DRZ when I added a kick starter. The only thing you need is a basket holder. I like the vice grip type. Once it's on you just have to keep it from turning with no worries about slipping off. I thought about putting on the 13 tooth but didn't want it to get buzzy at high speed. I had that on my DRZ and it was unpleasant over 50MPH. I am getting off topic here - sorry. I'll return to oil leak reports soon.

I was thinking the Rekluse radius X since it's a bit less $$ than the CX. I know you don't get the case cover and the new basket but I'd be happy just not stalling on tough, rocky uphills and being able to start at a crawl. Let me know how the installation goes. Looks fairly straight forward. Just a bit tricky to bleed the slave. On the tires, my rear was clearly worn it wasn't worth it to try to get a few more miles on it. If I were riding more roads then OK, but I'm headed for the woods this weekend again.

I thought I would post an update here. Beta is replacing my entire motor so thankfully I don't have to deal with a torn down motor and the off chance that it might not get back together perfectly. My dealer has the motor now and I will be taking the bike there next week to get it replaced. The bad part is I have to go through the break-in again and do another oil change and valve check at 3 hours. In the mean time, I had the chance to put it through the paces on a dual sport ride on 6/2 and it performed very well - at least better than me. I guess a Rekluse is now on the list. I replaced the rear tire yesterday too. The stock Michelin was good for less than 500 miles. It really wasn't good at all. Bike is cleaned up now and like new. I'll post again once the new motor is in place

Center gasket between case halves is confirmed. Beta said they had a bad batch of them. Needs to be replaced. Stay tuned...

I did put a small wrench on the bolts and was unable to move them. I did not loosen and re-torque them as I would have if the bike was out of warranty. I figured I'd let the dealer do that. I was concerned with over torquing them, especially with the aluminum case. If someones going to break something down there under warranty it's not going to be me. I did let the dealer do a 3 hour service including torquing the fasteners and the valve check. I would normally do that myself but I had a vacation so I just left the bike at the dealer while I was away and then I didn't have to worry about running and finding shims after I had it all apart. Valves were apparently still in spec at 3 hours. Did the oil and trans fluid changes myself. I thought the leak was the due to me messing up an o-ring on the oil plug but like I said before, it is dry. I wish it was the plug.

I'll let you know what they say. I dropped it off last night. The dealer said he needs to confirm the leak and then contact Beta on how to proceed.
