What did you BUY for your DRZ today

Picked up a pair of AlpineStars Tech 2's and I am LOVING them... I was previously riding with a pair of the AStars MX-1 street boots, but I never felt that comfortable with how flimsy they were... Well flimsy is definitely not something you can say about the Tech 2.. They are literally a lowtop version of the tech 7 or 10... Nice and heavy duty with great ankle support and their quality buckle system... So far these Tech 2s have been awesome!

Gotta love big CC 2-strokes!! My pops had this '82 CR480 that I helped him rebuild with a '83 motor... Loved that thing

Howdy Ohiorider! So heres my 2 cents.... I definitely think its a worthy mod, for the right rider... I too had read all of the mixed reviews so I was a little hesitant, but I found it on craigslist for $80 so I figured for basically 1/2 off of retail, what the hell... The first thing I noticed after installing it was that it is definitely shorter than stock. I am 5'10, so the height wasnt really a problem with the stock seat, but the shape of the Gel seat really allowed for a better sitting position when youre stopped. I could put both feet totally flat on the ground no problem, which was nice. The Gel is decently firm, but I do think anyone on the heavier side of the scale (anyone in the 200lb range or more) should probably hold off on this seat. I weigh around 150 without my gear on and after an hour of riding, there is defintely a noticable difference in how much more squishy the gel was.. It wasnt enough to be uncomfortable for me, but I can definitely see where a heavier guy might hate it. Overall I would rate the seat a 7.5/10.... Perfect for the weekend twisties but probably not enough if you are doing a cross country trip with hundreds of miles a day.... If you can find one for under $100, its a no-brainer in my opinion.

    Suzuki Gel Seat - DRZ400

So far so good. Its definitely a little lower than stock, but not too short. The only problem I could see is the gel squishes down pretty good, so after an hour or so of riding a heavier rider might not be very comfy.

    Suzuki Gel Seat - DRZ400

    1 review

GENERAL INFORMATION Ergonomically designed and extensively tested for the latest Suzuki models. Each seat has a special insert of flexible SaddleGel below a top layer of cushioning foam with a vinyl seat cover. The gel is a rubberlike material that stays flexible down to temperatures of -40F. The gel equalizes body weight pressure for improved comfort. Each seat features a metal plate at the back with the bike's logo. Only Suzuki Genuine Accessories badged gel seats use a standard Suzuki seat base and hardware for a perfect fit with no modifications.

    IMS Large Capacity Gas Tank

Finally made a decision on a gas tank... 3.2 Gallon IMS... I am loving it so far. Its not as big as a few of the other options on the DRZ (Safari and Clarke make larger capacity options, but they are both super ugly and create serious uneven weight when filled because of the design).

Oil overflow question on my 2005 drz440sm

Thanks Noble. I am certainly finding out a ton about my bike lately. I originally bought it in April of 2014 from a dealership that had taken it in on consignment and they didn't really have a ton of info about what the previous owner had done to it. I tried to talk with the dude, but after promises of getting us in contact, the dealership never made it happen, so it has been a learn as I go situation for sure. I have been a dirtbike rider for over 20 years and also worked at a bike shop up in Northern Cali for like 5 years in both the parts and service depts, so getting into a bit of a "fix-er-upper" wasn't a big deal to me and I got a great deal. Anyways, I digress... I did put about 30 relatively easy miles on it earlier today and it ran fine, with no more oil coming out anywhere, so at least the hoses I had already replaced are working. I also made sure to check the oil level both after warming it up and right after my ride and it was a right at the "full" line on the dipstick, so definitely good there. With that said, the oil/vapor separator was removed by the previous owner and the "T" system I have seen slammed as a terrible idea was put in. Haha. I don't see any reason at all for it to be removed and could see it causing more harm than any perceived gain there may be. Since I technically only replaced the tubes in the "T" system, I am planning on getting all of the OEM oil & vent tubing and finding an oil/vapor separator on eBay ASAP, to make it the way it should be. Do I have any major risks in riding it until I can get everything ordered and installed (probably in the next 2-3 weeks would be realistic). I just can't let her sit with that new FCR carb and Yosh exhaust. She is SOOOO much fun now! Haha! Thanks again for your help (and everyone's on here so far) ThumperTalk has been amazing!

Good to hear man! I saw a few of your other posts about them when I was researching whether I wanted to stay with single piece or the folding type. Maybe eventually, but so far I can't come to terms with dropping $30-$50 per lever.

My DRC "shorty" levers showed up after only a couple days (from wheelingcyclesupply). To reiterate others, they are not exactly short. I would say only 1/4-1/2 inch shorter (about the length of the small safety ball on the end of the OEMs), But for $7.95 each, they are more than worth it.. Even if they just end up in the tool kit.

Oil overflow question on my 2005 drz440sm

Nevermind. I think I found it. Ended up replacing all of the hoses and clamps. I think I still had a crack in a hose somewhere that was causing the issue. Will ride a little and see what happens.
  12. Yea I already have a manual petcock installed.. Was just wondering if it would work at all or not.. Just an overall knowledge question.
  13. So I just did the 39mm FCR upgrade and a full oil change with filter (yes I double checked that it isnt overfilled) and after riding about 5-10 mins, I am getting oil coming out of the overflow above the airbox. I found out because that hose had a crack I had tape- fixed since its just an overflow, and I ended up with oil on my right leg. I replaced the hose, put everything back together and still doing the same thing. The bike idles and runs great but obviously something aint kosher. Any ideas? (Pics are from before hose change)
