    prevent shifter piercing ignition cover

    My shifter poked made a small crack in mine on a fairly mild drop. Laid it on the side of the trail and scuffed it up with a rock, cleaned it up and used some 2 part epoxy on the small crack. That was last year, and no leaks. I keep a replacement engine cover in my car just in case. I put a trail jammer on it. Ground the point off as well.

    Supermoto wheel options

    OEM but modified. I cut off 3/4" off the bottom if I recall correctly. The bottom is hollow. It works for for my dirt and SM wheels. It isn't perfect maybe cutting off 1/2" would have been better. It has not fallen over though. With the SM wheels on it is leaning nearly 43 degrees. With the dirt wheels it is like 40 degrees, which works well for uneven terrain but if the kickstand sinks the bike will be falling over.

    I have warp 9 wheels on mine. They are really great. The front rotor was warped after about 5 rides though. The seller I bought them from went to bat and got the replacement sent very quick since I was leaving for a trip in 5 days. Haven't had a problem since.     Lithium charging (Tusk)

    Because if the charger keeps charging it past 14.4 for some reason, the battery will catch on fire along with your bike. That is why you don't leave it charging for long if using a normal trickle charger. If you are charging it and forget it to unplug it could be a costly mistake, though unlikely.

    I went from a DRZ to a 17 500exc. Best move I made but then again I like working on bikes. Dirt wheels and SM wheels on mine. What a blast!! My Speed Triple doesn't get many miles on it anymore. I see no reason the bike shouldn't last a really long time with proper maintenance.

    Idea for stopping dead batteries

    Just an update. So I ordered a key ignition alarm for $4, it is the size of 5 quarters stacked. It makes the same tone as when you leave your keys in the car. It is at 80db at 12v. Way too loud. I want it to be just noticeable when the key is left in. I ordered an adjustable buck converter which can go as low as 1v. I tested a 1.5v AAA battery to see how it would sound, it is perfect. This should work great. I'll post a vid when I am done.

    2017 Ktm 500 electrical problems

    First picture is an accessory wire, positive. Not sure what the 2nd one is. Odd that it is a female without shrink tubing on it, likely a ground. I was digging around that area recently and didn't see the black female plug.

  10. I thought of an idea but I need some help. I just killed my stock battery and the 3rd time bringing it back didn't work. This time I killed it when testing the new grip heaters and left the key on while testing. Yes, I have a switched relay. Luckily I already had a replacement battery all ready to do. I am thinking of hooking up a car key chime to the bike when the key is left in the on position but the bike is off. They are really small. Is there a circuit on the 500exc that is hot when the key is in the on position but off when bike is running?     FE350 or 350EXC

    This one is plated. Thanks. I will have to do a compression test on it. I bet it was mostly dual sported or has lots of road miles since it looks mint. I have a feeling it is good.

    2017 500EXC Mud Flap rubbing shock

    I need to get a longer chain, I run SM and dirt tires with the stock chain, but different size sprockets. Just waiting for the chain to wear out but it is holding strong. Would like to get a little more spacing. I don't think that is the issue though as the tire doesn't touch the flap anyway. I am sure there are plenty of people that ride harder then me but don't have the worn paint. Yeah that is the cause. I don't want to file anything that doesn't need to be. Something else is wrong, I'll have to keep investigating. Maybe I'll try the washer thing but I would need to have more tire clearance to have it work.

    2017 500EXC Mud Flap rubbing shock

    Spud, about an 1/2" to 3/4" between the tire and mud flap. The tire doesn't touch it. I thought that as well. As you can see the bike is clean and it still rubs. When the swing arm pivots down from being weighted the shock changes it's angle and that is when it touches. Odd right?

    Here you go. Pic 1- New spring with less than 35 hours on it. Powder coat worn off. Pic 2- Bike with no rider. Pic 3- Me and my 200lbs hanging over the seat to get the picture. It makes a deadened rubber thud sound every time I weight and unweight the bike. It does not hit my tire.

    FE350 or 350EXC

    I am helping my buddy buy a bike. I got to get him off my wife's XT225, he looks like a bear riding a bicycle. We found a 2013 FE350 with 200 hours on it for $4300. I can't find a 350exc for the right price in my area. Seems like a good deal but it has been for sale for over a month, it's kinda odd. It looks really clean. Any reason not to get the FE350? They are pretty much the same as a 350exc right? My only concern is getting parts, is that a valid concern? Any input would be great.
