    Siezed Kicker??

After a new top end bore and build from Engine Dynamics (Petaluma CA) KPMI Black diamond valves stems, seals and springs, Mukuni Pumper carb, New Piston and Pro Circuit exaust...my shit is Fu**ed. I rode and investigated the bike for around 25 miles and adjusted valves etc when build was compete and everything ran ok ish. It felt like it had very low power mid end but felt like carb adjust issues. Was riding it on a normal test run and Bam! Engine stopped and couldn't kick the bike over again. Below is what happened inside.. All parts were brand new.. I still have the exaust, head, parts and bike frame if anyone in the East Bay area is interested in buying parts... Anyone see anything like this happen before? What could I have done to cause this ? As for this XR I'm done..ill save up and buy something brand new next. Thanks for the tips!

    Siezed Kicker??

Hey guys, Just moved my needle on my pumper carb to richen the mixture on my bike. Couldn't start for the first 50 kicks. After adjustments it fired up and idled fine. Rode for about 500 yards and heard a &%$#@!ed up metallic crunch noise and the bike stopped. I can still shift and roll the bike but the kick lever is stuck. Anyone had this happen before? I'm starting to strip everything down...

    valve adjustment nut is gone!

Thanks man, I found the rocker arm adjustment screw was tripped from the nut jumbling inside the head. I was able to replace both parts and that solved the problem. Thanks for your help as always.

    valve adjustment nut is gone!

Anybody know what the size of the Valve adjustment nut is? I had a similar issue where my adj nut came off and got caught between valve and valve cap causing them to seize. I got it out and everything is good to go, but the nut was stripped and needs to be replaced..

    valve adjustment nut is gone!

Man this happened to me recently. Went for a long ride and suddenly. All compressions was gone from the bike. Opened her up and saw the adj not came off and was wedged between the valve and cover. Removed it and valves could fire and pressure returned

    Bike died suddenly, NO Compression

Update: Popped open valve caps and found that the tightening nut came off and was wedged between the valve and roof of valve cap. Once I got it out I could see all the valves were firing normally when test kicking.

    Bike died suddenly, NO Compression

Yes it's connected. Ill try to adjust when I can get it in the shop. It seemed loose before but I wasn't using it to kick the bike over
  8. Hey guys, After almost two years of work I was finally able to ride my XR. Had the top end rebuilt new valves, springs, seals, piston Pumper Carb T1 ProCircuit pipe After riding/testing for around 4+ hrs no problem, my bike just died and can't be kicked or bumped started. There is zero compression on kick. I can't tell if the plug is out but seems tight when hand checking. I had to ditch it and wait for a homie to bring his truck. I'm thinking it's either a stuck valve piston ring.. Any advise on what this could be?
  9. Cheers and happy thumping!
  10. Hey guys, I wanted to post an update to my 2 year oddessy with rebuilding my 00' XR 400. I have posted here and other XR along my journey and wanted to share the best resources I found. My Current build Rebored top end by Engine Dynamics (Petaluma CA) TM 36 Pumper 130 main 15 pilot 9eby01-50 T1 Pro circuit pipe Wiseco Piston 10:1 Kibblewhite Blk diamond Valves Seals and springs Baja Designs Dual Sport kit So after buying this bike, I had a hell of time starting it. Discovered the valves and combustion chamber were fried. Sent it out to Engine Dynamics with new valves seals and springs and they did a competition valve job and rebore. Once back I had everything back on but bike wouldn't start...this began a long troubleshooting journey that ended with isolating issues to the carb. The pumper was purchased by XRs only and they provided no help when asking simple advise on troubleshooting. After posting in forums here and other sites I came across a contact for Mikunoz in Australia. I sent him a note on my specs and he instantly said its the needle. From XRs only the needle they provide Is much leaner(6 class), and once I changed it the bike behaved exactly how it was supposed to! Starts up cold and warm, runs and Idles smooth! Low Rpms are great no Bog, and wipe open is great with a little hiccup in 3rd gear ( im working on adjusting). . If anyone is buying from XRs only save yourself some headache and contact: Tom tdh@mikunioz.com This guy is the most helpful dude I have ever worked with on this issue, and I guarantee you guys will benefit greatly if you see yourselves in a similar situation I was in. Now on to the electrical!

    '01 XR400 CA Emissions

Hey everyone, On my XR400 I don't have the CA emissions air filter connected, so I have two semi open tubes, one from the airbox and one from the crack case..What is the recommended config for this? Could this cause issues with Air mixture?

    Kevin's XR400 FAQ

Thank you for this great resource. I have been plagued with the same Bogging on my 01 XR issues so I went and got a Mikuni TM36 Pumper from XRs only. Stock jetting is 130 main 15 pilot. Im also running a T4 procircuit pipe. I have not been able to start this thing at all since getting the pumper. I tried using a bigger pilot jet up to 35. All other things I have verified (timing, spark, fuel, air). Any advise on what to try to get this thing ripping?

    Mikuni TM-36 Pumper Carb Question

@joeRC51 I checked and had spark, also installed new plug. I don't think I've smelled gas when kicking it. I know I have fuel flow from the tank line into the carb and In the carb.
