    Oregon Tillamook Conditions

My friend and I are planning on riding at Tillamook this Sunday. Anyone know the conditions there right now? Looks like the weather will be decent that day but how are the trails right now? Thanks, Matt
  2. I just checked the OTB website and they still have last year's calander of events posted. Anyone know when they are going to be opening for the season? Last year is was mid-febuary, although I think the first weekend ended up getting cancelled due to weather. Anyone? Matt

    ASAP - Starvation Ridge Difficulty

Thanks for replies. He ended up deciding that he didn't want to go so I kind of forgot about my post. I think he was a bit intimidated from our last trip to Eddieville the week before as it was windy and cloudy that day and he just had a kind of off day. This is good info to know though for the next play day they have at Starvation Ridge. Thanks again, Matt

    ASAP - Starvation Ridge Difficulty

I have been to Starvation Ridge once a few years ago but can't really remember it. I am thinking about taking my 8-year old there today for the playday but I am not sure if he is good enough for it yet. He rides the GP track at Eddieville fairly well but I have to run back and ride his bike through a few of the rougher sections for him. In particular, he has a tough time on the really rocky sections and then gets a bit intimidated on the steeper down and ups. Is Starvation Ridge tougher or easier than Eddieville? Hopefully someone can chime in on this soon so we can get rolling if we are going to go. Thanks, Matt

    Oil Leaking

Thanks for the reply. I'll check those places out for the leak. Matt

    Oil Leaking

I had noticed a slight oil leak on my son's KLX 110. It was not consistent but every now and then I would see a few drops in the garage after he had been riding it. I decided it was probably just a slightly leaky seal and that I'd keep an eye on it. Well, we went to the track yesterday and he had a minor crash. After I got the bike back up I noticed a small pool of oil on the ground and saw oil dripping from his bike. I couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from as most of his case seemed to have oil all over it. After checking his oil level I decided he had not lost enough oil to stop riding and we finished the lap and called it a day. There was a little more dripping - mostly following that crash - but not much for the rest of the day. I am thinking that the oil losses usually follow a crash when the bike is off it's vertical axis. I am not 100% on that but it makes sense since it doesn't always leak. I am going to take a closer look when I have some time but would appreciate any input or advice that anyone else can offer. Are there any particular bolts or seals that I should pay special attention to? I don't have a service manual so I pretty much go by online diagrams when servicing his bike. Also, I need to do an oil change which will be a good time to check for leaks. However, I've never done one on his bike yet. Is it pretty straight forward (remove the drain screw, drain the oil, fill it back up), or is there more to it than that. And can anyone tell me how much oil a KLX 110 takes? Thanks for any help in these matters, Matt

    Age range for the 110

My amost eight year old is riding one now and it is perfect for him. I am guessing he will be riding it for at least the next two to three seasons as well. Once he's done with it I am going to convert it into a play bike for myself. I doubt your could find a better bike for your cousin start out on and if it's in good shape and doesn't need any work I think $500 is a great price. Of course he will outgrow it eventually and want more power but that's how it is with kids - you gotta start somewhere.

    How Was Eddieville on Saturday?

Thanks for the reply. We ended up going on Sunday and had a good time. Not too hot, windy or dusty. I was hoping the few sections on the track that had to be reworked because of the towers would be smoothed out since my last time there but I think it was actually worse. Not that I'm complaining, I just had to ride the sections on my bike and then run back and ride my son's bike over them. Not that big of a deal as it's only a small part of the track. He just doesn't like to ride over rough areas. I have to say though, the GP track is perfect for the budding rider who is bored with the kids track but isn't ready for the MX track yet. Now, if they would just get babysitting so that I can get a few laps of my own in... Matt

    How Was Eddieville on Saturday?

Anyone happen to ride Eddieville today (Saturday)? How were the conditions? Dusty, windy, crowded? I want to bring my seven year old on Sunday but he is fairly new to riding. He has been there once before with me a couple months ago and gets bored quickly on the kids track. I'm not taking him on the MX track though, so that leaves the GP track. Hopefully it won't be too windy tommorow and they will open it (forecast is 10-20 in the afternoon near Hood River). However, I want to make sure it's not going to be too hot or crowded there either. Any comments? Thanks, Matt

    Chain Slack

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like it should be ok. I ride his bike around the house every now and then for fun so I was more concerned about the slack being ok for when I am riding it than for him. I figure if it is right for me it should be good for him. Thanks, Matt

    Chain Slack

I just took the rear tire off my son's KLX 110 to change the tube. After putting it back together I had a difficult time adjusting the slack in the chain. Is there a correct way to measure chain slack on the 110? I guess this is a general question, not necissarily specific to the KLX, but I have never been very good at getting the correct amount of slack in the chain. The chain was initially snugging up when I sat on the bike so I pushed the tire forward a bit. Now there is a very slight amount of play in the chain when I am sitting on the bike. Does that sound about right or should it be pretty loose even when I am sitting on it? Any advice? If it matters, I am ~200 lbs and my son is ~60 lbs. Thanks, Matt

    Throttle Screw

    Thanks for the info!

    Throttle Screw

I got my son a KLX 110 last Christmas. I bought a longe screw at the hardware store to limit the throttle. He has now ridden the bike a bit and I am ready to give him more throttle. Only problem is I am not sure what I did with the original short screw. Is there a minimum length screw that I need to have in there or can it be simply run without a screw? If there is a minimum length could someone let me know what it is? I think he has the throttle pretty well figured out and doesn't need it limited anymore. I just don't want to risk him overrevving the engine if I take the screw out altogether. Thanks, Matt

    KLX 110 Not Running

OK, got it running. The float fell out of the bowl when I initially took it apart so I didn't fully see how it was supposed to go together. I didn't realize that the fuel needle/jet/whatever it's called was supposed to slide into the float and I just had the float sitting on top of it. Runs like a champ now. I think the new airbox made a huge difference as well. Matt

    KLX 110 Not Running

Update to my previous post. I took the carb off the bike again to double check that all the jets, etc... were seated properly. They were fine but when I took the carb apart the float was bone dry. There was fuel to the end of the fuel hose but as far as I could tell it wasn't entering the carb at all. I am going to rip it apart again today to see if I can get to the bottom of this. Also, am I correct that there are two fuel drain lines coming off the carb. I only remember seeing one when I took it off but I think I just missed the other one. Thanks, Matt
