Tusk lighting with battery+Ac = bog?

I just installed this kit today and either I read your post wrong or I don't understand why you didn't just connect the hot wire coming from your stator, the yellow one in the case of my 2003 WR250F, that supplies power to your headlight. That's the only connection that was not independent of the old wiring harness.
The Tusk Motorcycle Enduro Lighting Kit is designed to be a simple way to provide front and rear turn signals, tail/brake lights, horn, and rearview mirror for your motorcycle. The kit is relatively easy to install and does not require much cutting into your motorcycle’s existing wiring. The components have universal applications and will work on almost any motorcycle with minor modifications. The kit is intended for motorcycles with existing headlights. The bottom line: The kit is complete and comes with everything (except tires and license plate) you need to make your dirt bike street legal with a few caveats. None of the lighting is DOT approved which could be a problem depending on your inspection. Also the parts are all made in Taiwan and feel cheap and I worry about water instrusion into the electrical components and connections. Also, I ditched the ridiculously cheap and useless mirror for other aftermarket mirrors. You DO have to cut into your harness at the headlight to install this kit correctly.

    DRZ400E or WR250F?

    Agreed!
  3. Me too. No the WR and YZ are not the same thing but they are pretty close.
  4. Welcome! I'm partial to the Yamaha WR250F but ride whatever stirs your soul because when it comes down to it...riding is riding. You know, as long as you're riding and not always fixing

Birthday Bike for a 9 year old...

Looking for an article I read from a long time KTM owner. If I find it I will post it but to be fair my opinion is based solely on what I've read from him and what others have said. I have never owned one. The gist of the article is: KTM's are hit or miss quality. One bike is good while another of the same year/model is a lemon. They are sold as high end quality bikes while having inferior engineering and build quality. There are part replacement issues. Specifically, engine internals. KTM will not replace individual internal engine parts for the writer of the article because of the speed that the KTM's internals wear out, tolerances will not match and the parts will not mate properly so they will only replace his entire engine...at his cost. The writer has ongoing mechanical issues which cannot be diagnosed by his dealer and was told "That's the way it is with some bikes". I hope I can find the article. It was an eye opener to me and was enough for me to say no thanks to KTM when the big three are so good. Maybe I'm foolish but I'm not willing to even take the chance with my money and my kid's bikes.

Don't think you'll need to upgrade the WR250 to a larger bike...ok...maybe to the WR450 but who needs a dirtbike, or dual sport for that matter, that goes more than 100 mph which is near the top speed for the WR. This is a fast "little" bike! With that being said, get the bike that stirs your soul and don't let anyone tell you what to ride.

    Suzuki GSX750F Katana (1995)

Custom painted Suzuki Katana 750. Lots of useable power as this is essentially an 80's Suzuki GsxR 750 engine retuned for better low to midrange power. Bulletproof engine which utilizes Suzuki SACS cooling.

    Honda CB750 Nighthawk (1993)

Love this bike. The power is fairly adequate and the bike is bulletproof. Hydraulic valves, Honda quality. I replaced the bars with some black dirtbike bars and I love it even more.

  11. I know this post was eleven years ago but would love to add a key. Any new updates for this mod to the Yamaha WR250F?

Consider the Kawasaki KLX 110 or KLX 110L which is a little larger frame $2299 and $2499 respectively. I would NOT consider a KTM only because of quality concerns. I would stick with one of the Big 3.
  13. Gonna put these 2003 YZF stickers on my 2003 WR250. The factory stickers are not available for the WR for some reason. If anyone can find the 2003 WR250F tank stickers that look like these please let me know.
