  3. That's a great suggestion given height and interest in a dual sport.
  4. Athletic as in good reflexes or as in triathlete? Fitness is 1,2, and 3 to ride offroad. That said there's plenty of unfit people that can ride a dual sport ok too. What's your experience, do you ride a bicycle well? What areas do you have available to ride? Public land, ohv areas or just messing around on fields or gravel roads? We can help you out, just tell us what you're tryna do. [emoji106]
  5. Yea, that's all good. Ask if he's running the 100ll because the head is cut for high compression, you'l need to know that.
  6. Stop saying bottom end. You rev the piss pt of them and use the clutch to keep them on the pipe. There is no bottom end. If you can't keep it on the pipe, you gear it down until you can. It's really that simple. Now focus on finding the best condition yz125 you can in your price range. FOCUS!

    They're fine for cruising around on, my fatass talentless buddy plonks around all over the place on his. He also piles miles on it commuting to work. They're by far the best dual sport of the 250s. So you gotta rev em a little, no big deal.

    Yeah i guess so, it's pretty obnoxious, but I tend to not worry about stuff like excessive whining, I'm married. It ain't broke yet.

    I run tractionator IT front and D606 rear, great combo on and off road, absolutely perfect for high speed gravel bombing.

    I had a station wagon, i just strapped the front wheel in the back and drove with the hatch up dragging the bike on its rear wheel.

  16. What bike did you come from? Mines smooth as glass. But im used to 4 hours straight on a YZ250. Honestly my C14 has harsher vibes at certain rpm and it's a purpose built touring motorcycle.
  17. Because the one they used is perfectly spaced for the power delivery of the motor. It's anything but busy at 75mph with the 14/46 which does indeed make 1st a playbike gear. The 690 didn't get the twin counter balanced motor until 19 and the old one isn't even bad imo. The ACT gears seem a good idea but i don't know if the drz makes enough power to pull them without feeling gappy. The 690/701 gearing seems wrong on paper but after a few hours of learning what the bike wanted from me it became evident why it was set up that way and it really works. It's simply set up as a big dirt bike, not as a dual sport or a light adv bike. The Austrian design language didn't shift for mission specific function, they just increased the displacement/power until it worked for everything. It seems really weird until you try it.

  19. Not true on the trans. Yes it's close ratio and requires a lot of shifting. On my drz on a tight single lane backroad i could just leave it in 4th with the occasional shift up or down one gear to make serious progress. The 701 needs shifted a lot more, because it eats up straights so much faster. I had the drz geared at 14/47 so it would pull hillclimbs in 2nd on ST, which limited it to mid eighties top speed on the limiter. The 701 i geared down one tooth on the CS to 14/46 and it will pull hillclimbs with way more authority in 2nd as well as still go over 100mph in sixth. So the gearing is just broader and overall more useful.
  20. You should be able to get an fmf Q4 for it, the heat is mostly the catalysts in the stock muffler. You'll drop 7-10lbs off the top of the bike this way too. I went with a titanium fmf 4.1 for max weight savings and it runs a lot cooler too, but i ride with earplugs so the noise doesn't bother me. My riding buddy that follows me all the time says it's not bad FWIW.
