XR650R: Valve Adjustment, Intake v. Exhaust Questions

Thanks brianhare I will adjust to spec and check every ride for awhile until I'm sure they aren't moving drastically. Good to know about the valves being prone to cupping.

XR650R: Valve Adjustment, Intake v. Exhaust Questions

Right, I understand the procedure. I just wonder if my intake valves are exceedingly tight or if there is any other issues I should look into before I play with clearances.
  3. First time poster, long time lurker. When adjusting my valves yesterday I could find what was presumably TDC, and quite near or spot on the 'T" mark as well. At this point the rocker arms on the exhaust side are freed up to move up and down a bit. However my intake side will not free up. I can't slip my feeler into the intake side at any position. Is my situation here likely that the intake valves are so tight that the rockers are held tight as well? Do the exhaust and intake rockers gain free play at the same time? I am quite sure that I have tight valves, I have experienced a difficult idle, as well as over rev when coming to a stop with the clutch in the past couple short rides. Also, I have turned my crank by hand counterclockwise at least 200 turns to check to make sure i did not go past. The only other thing I have read is possible issues with the decompressor system, but I am too amateur a mechanic to quite grasp the operation of that system yet. Any input is good input, I enjoy hearing about other pigs

If you are strong enough, and play with the clutch enough, it can do everything except MX/SX.
