Hi folks, First time poster, long time lurker. Hoping someone with some experience with 150/230F's can answer a question for me. I have a bone stock 2015 230F. It's been a great reliable trail bike as I'd hoped. I have a 2 smoker for the track but I tried a 230 on a group trail ride a while back and fell in love with it's handling at low speed on technical trails. Recently however I went for a ride with a buddy who has a stock 150F. I was surprised to find that he actually has more speed than me in 1st 2nd and 3rd. In 4th 5th and 6th I am able to pull away. This surprised me because I assumed the extra displacement would make me slightly faster in any given gear. We also switched bikes to make sure it wasn't rider error or shifting patterns that caused him to have more power in the low end. The weight difference in bikes and riders is negligible, and the head to heads were on a packed gravel straightaway. My theory is that the gears are taller on the 230 as opposed to the 150, and also the additional gear in the 230 makes for a completely different power delivery. I am well aware of the power up kit ect.. just looking to see if it makes sense that the 150 has more low end before I start looking for problems in the 230. Any input is appreciated!
