  1. No I'm not sure my local bike shop has, but they are pretty knowledgeable. I need to go get some Allen wrenches tomorrow to open it up as I can't find the right size
  2. Anybody know anything about the edelbrock carb for DRZ? I don't care about the pros / cons of it vrs any other drz carbs, as I can't afford another and want to get this one going for now. My issue is, the slide will only open about 1/8". I thought the pumper linkage was jammed, so I disconnected it, and same issue.. the pic is as wide as it'll open. I'd like to get it fixed tomorrow, and have a mechanic friend that can give me a hand, BUT I'm sure he's never worked on a pumper carb, and may be better off dropping it off at a bike shop and spending $100 to have it rebuilt
  3. Any idea on the actual name of it? I'm seeing alot of people pushing Rotella T / T6.. is it any good?
  4. Is Rotella t 15w 40 safe?
  5. Working on a drz400 S that I just bought that was said to have severe blow by. After looking at it, I believe the "blow by" is actually oil blowing out of poorly routed vent tubes. I want to do an oil change with the cheapest possible "accecptable" oil, so that I know the oil in the bike is good, as well as flush any gas that may be in the oil before going with castrol synthetic or something of the sort. Is there anything in the $5-6 /qt range, that I can use for this purpose, just to make sure I don't have to tear further into the bike before I spend $12/13 a qt?
  6. So, I finally got around to checking the bike out.. I pulled the tank, in anticipation of pulling the carb to clean it, clean the tank, fix rotted fuel lines, and check into the top end.. When I pulled the tank like, noticed it's an aftermarket plastic tank.. and I also noticed a hose running from the lower vent across the top of the motor to the front, as well as a hose coming out of the valve cover vent, to the front.. and both were vented to right in front of the motor, about the height of the base gasket.. Seems when they installed the edelbrock carb, the linkage on the side of it got in the way of the black box reinsralled, and instead of them tieing the vents together and "teeing" it off to the airbox, they just vented it to the atmosphere and it was making it look like the base gasket was blowing oil out of it. The guy I bought it from offered to fire it up and show me it ran, but I knew then I had "stolen" the bike and really didn't mind possibly having to rebuild the engine, just knew I wanted the bike.. So the plan now, is to drain the oil, including pulling the screen and cleaning it, replace the oil and filter. Pull carb, clean it and replace all the fuel and vent lines. Get a battery, fix the black box delete bs, and try and fire it! It's also got 0 pressure at the rear brakes, but from what I can tell there is no fluid in the resivor (light colored over spray on it from the front, and can't really see threw it), so I need to find my Allen keys and pull the gaurds and fill it up and see if it's leaking from somewhere. Another issue, is the throttle seriously moves around 1/8th revolution, I'd say. I don't know if the idle screw is pushed in too far, causing it not to close, or if the "pumper" linkage is binding it (is the linkage tied into the throttle wheel supposed to move?) OR if it's just a "1/4 turn" throttle tube and operating how it should. I'll check all that out tomorrow when I get the carb out of the bike.. I'm hoping and praying the guy really "quit riding it because of the amount of oil coming out of the engine, to save the engine", and everything is fine.. that'd mean I'll have about $750 into an "s" model DRZ. ? I need to get my grips and seat installed as well, and find an airbox cover / number plate, and order an Ebay headlight

  8. Hello, getting all the parts for my bike together, and need to decide on what size tire I should run? I'm thinking about the shinko 705s, but if I can I may order the Avon Trailriders.. I want the widest tire I can out back, but unsure in front.. thoughts?
  9. Another vote for go for it. I picked up an 04 for $600, needs a top end, but has ported head, full fmf, ect.. I figure even if it takes me $2k to rebuild, it'll be the same price as a stock bike, except not stock.
  10. Nice bike.. are those the new style plastics, or are they aftermarket?
  11. Long enough my butt went numb before my thumb did. I've ridden quads for years, and never once got tired of using my thumb.. and my stand up jetskis use a finger throttle as well. Just something I'm used to, and prefer.
  12. I JUST paid $119 for a top end that was pulled for a bigbore with 1800 miles on it from ebay.. included gaskets, AND cams that I can sell to offset the cost.. no way I'd replate..
  13. As for hitting the rear brake and the clutch, the foot brake will still be there, and operational. The lhrb really is only needed when on one wheel
  14. Not i, from the research I have done, the mod can be completed for under $100 using mtn bike levers, but I can't find a direct parts list..
