  1. call a company called Sudco on Monday,310 637 8330, ask for tech support, give them the serial number off the side of the body and they will tell you what it is and can get you all the parts, it sounds like an old race carb

    Yz250f frustration has kicked in

read my post on yz450f crackle/ popping ,I figured it out today

    2008 crf 50 running issue

squirt contact cleaner around intake , may have an air leak , if it runs better with choke on.also pilot jet is the small jet beside main jet, take it out and pluck a piece of wire from a wire brush and poke it though the jet, it must be clean , look through it to check. other problem I have seen is the choke plate linkage breaks and stays closed, make sure it stays fully open

    sos yz250 won't start.

assuming you have done all the listed stuff, does it have plenty of compression? if not take off the pipe and look into the cylinder through exhaust port ,if piston /cylinder has any scoring or ring area is showing blow by its time for a top end. also change the coolant

    Help me identify my FCR

the little diaphragm on side of the carb is a back fire control diaphragm , last saw one on a 2006 yfz45o yam quad, look at side of carb body for a number stamped into the body and google it.
  6. its too rich, needle fer sure, not sure why you have tps disconnected,I would reconnect,45-48 pilot, 2-1/2 on fuel screw ,make sure the o ring and washer are there on fuel screw,165 on main, they like to run super lean. if you have slow speed crackle see my post on that subject, put heavy oring or wire over little black lever /fuel acc pump screw (under throttle cable cover) you can screw the adjuster screw all the way in to start for full fuel pump action. assume you have air box opened up and straight pipe buy new float needle from yam ,they are 15$,set float so it is level with carb body when it first touches the float, best to hold carb sideways when doing it, not upside down as float will compress float needle spring.

  8. ok I have figured it out, what a pig! This was a very loud violent crackle, I really thought it was electrical. Here goes!!the fcr has a 2 part upper carb body, there are several special oring gaskets between the these parts, unavailable from any factory, but available after market earlier 2000 models use K&L part number 18 7968 later models use WPS part number 68-4621 if you have ever squirted carb cleaner through the carb you have probably damaged the rubber orings,if you have put the carb in carb dip fer sure they are trashed. to split the upper body there are 4 torx security type screws inside the float area pointing up, there are also 2 small allens ,they hold another venturi piece inside the upper boby that also has a special oring ,it comes in the same kit, both of the above kits are about 25 bucks. this took me about 20 hrs to figure out, squirting contact cleaner around carb did not show the problem, hope it helps others to figure it out much quicker!
  9. I checked valve timing and adjusted valve clearances , they were not far enough off to burn valves I have seen stretched cam chains ,this is more of a problem on the 250f as they rev faster and chew up the crank drive gear if not changed, and I always change when I do top ends, dont think this has enough hours on it for that . It is a real crackle ,too fast for a carb problem I think, but stator is big bucks if I am wrong.
  10. looking down the intake it looks really clean, rims are shiny, no pitting on the fork tubes, I think low hours but not maintained , the oil was like tar acc pump works fine, I have seen them them plugged in the carb throat before, this one is clean.
  11. tried the suggestions, no different, leaning towards slow speed circuit of stator, anyone else?
  12. I will try that tomorrow, the pilot jets are new, and I have blown through the passage, but will try wire tomorrow. I checked the hot start was not stuck but did not remove it,thanks for the suggestions, I will replace the oring on the fuel screw too!
  13. ok, read a few topics on popping/back firing, but dont seem to quite fit my problem I have had my own shop for 30 years so I am not a first timer ,but I have only ran across this problem once before on an 03 yz250f,never figured it out last time, actually wore out the intake manifold I had the carb off so many times, and it had a fresh top end so I dont believe its mechanical! This time its an 08 yz450,starts up ok on choke, runs sort of ok,then as soon as the choke is off it crackles and pops, shitty throttle response first 1/4, just like its too lean on the pilot jet, stock is 42, have 45 in it, tried 48 but wont start when its hot with 48,so I think the richness masks the problem.Valve clearances are correct as is timing.removed and resealed the intake manifold,no difference if I spray contact cleaner around intake anyway,so no air leak. Figured it was TPS, it was out of spec, put in a new one and set to correct resistance, maybe slightly better but not really. Replaced coil/cap, no different, changed cdi with another good running bike the same year, no difference, disconnected kill switch,no difference, checked all resistance specs on low and high speed /pulse coil on the stator, all good, but thats the next thing to replace I think. Carb has been off many times, only thought is someone took apart the 2 pieces of the upper carb body or stuck it in carb dip and ruined the oring between them that you cannot buy, does not have a backfire diaphram like the old carbs, has anyone ever figured this one out?
