    Transmission troubles?????

Bearings were trashed in my mind. No way I’m spliting the cases and not changing them if I don’t know how long they have been in use (I assume they were original). I was going to use HotRods kit!!!! Thoughts? Hey Doc, any thoughts on the condition of that last three sets of gears. I don’t want to piss money away but I want Gears that are bad replaced.

    Transmission troubles?????

Gear three looks good from a window perspective but I’m wondering about the wear on the bearing surface. There is a copper color showing through or worn through, not sure which. This maybe normal for a bearing surface. Refer to this bearing as bearing 3 in posts. Anything help is greatly appreciated. Sorry for being long in the delivery of these but I can see how yzdoc could get confused at what gear was what in previous posts!

Gear two mates with gear one. The windows look worn but wondering if any life left in it.

    Transmission troubles?????

No more pics of gears that need replaced. The following pics are questionable in my mind. The first set of pics are for a gear that meshes with one being replaced. I believe this gear was previously replace based on the conditions of the doggs compared the windows of the mating gear (very worn). I took angled shots to better show and questionable wear. Refer to this as gear one in responses. Thank you.

So based on the 1st pic above - I’m looking to replace the 2 gears on the left side of pic and the bottom gear on the right side of pic. That means I want to salvage the gear in pic 5 which is the same gear on the top right of first few pics. It’s not perfect but l looks to have some more life left.

    Transmission troubles?????

ok Took apart the drive axle and cleaned the gears. The doggs look much better than the windows. Looks like the gears with dogs were replace as the color looks newer. The gears with the windows look like they need replaced. Axle looks good, that is, I’m not going to replace. I took pictures for input. Let me know what you think what needs replaced. Keep in mind I ride about 15 hours a year (sucks). Have trouble attaching pics so I do it in a bit

    Transmission troubles?????

Ahhh. I was looking at the wrong part of the gear. Looks like I have to remove gears from shafts. When they wear too much are they capable of breaking and doing case damage or just not functioning properly and missing gears. I bought the whole motor for the cases and the transmission was a potential bonus. Starting to look like no real potential.

I thought the doggs looked ok. The pics can be enlarged and there are several pics of the Doggs. Not sure what the window is so please educate me. I will update with better pics tonight when able. Could the side of gears that reflect chips be filed a bit?

    Transmission troubles?????

Checking out the transmission gears on a backup motor and saw some wear that kinda concerns me. The 3 gear on the main axle seems to have some small chips in the side of the teeth. The actual surface face of the teeth look ok. The shift forks are worn badly and have some grind make where they should be touching anything. I have attached some pictures. My thumb is on the gear tooth in question. I have attached a pic of the shift fork. Let me know what you think.

    Why and what

Have You downloaded a Manual? Make sure you use a torque wrench. I spending $100 to weld and retap a drainbolt threads because an idiot doesn’t know what 14lds of torque is. The manual is a definite source your gonna need. After you fix it you will be armed for the next problem.

    Why and what

I’m running maxima mtl80. When shopping baskets keep the gear in mind. I had to drill out the hardware holding the back gear to the basket to my new Hinson basket. A drill press makes the task easy but still doable with a drill. Sounds like a basket and outer clutch case and you back in business.

    Why and what

Shit never mind it’s been repaired. There are other that are in the $80-$100 range which is about right.
