  1. Try the gentlest method first, a thread file. Every old time moto mechanic had a set of thread files. Most modern mechanics don't even know they exist. Be VERY gentle with the external tool and open it frequently to get rid of debris. If you feel that you are encountering much resistance, stop because you are cross threading. Get your thread file out again and redo the shaft. Then use Loctite Red (NOT Blue) liberally on the shaft and nut to fill any voids if you still have enough of the original threads. Future removals of the nut will most likely require heat to soften the red Loctite's very tenacious grip. Don't try to remove it without using heat if you meet any resistance. This is because Loctite Red is meant for stud and bearing mounting and is normally not meant to be easily removed. As mentioned before, Don't ever use an impact wrench on previously damaged threats. Instead, Use a long breaker (cheater) bar on the end of a socket handle. If you feel more than normal resistance, heat up the nut again because it is the most likely the Loctite, not torque, that is holding the nut on. I have seen some real damage done when force, rather than heat, was used on red Loctite. If this doesn't work, have it welded up and rethreaded. This means you will have to find someone who is willing to weld it while it is still in the bike which might be difficult. I have also seen some VERY skillful thread repairs being done with traditional (not the weaker fast set) J+B Weld steel epoxy. A good repair using J+B requires meticulous cleaning and degreasing beforehand and preferably an at least a full three day (preferably five day) cure period afterwards so it reaches maximal strength before you start cutting on it
