    Making WR250F Street Legal

Thanks guys I'll probably call and ask the DMV just to be sure, hopefully I won't run into any other problems. And honestly I would want a key ignition so I don't have to worry about parking my bike.

This has been an amazing enduro bike. It has proven to be reliable and provides otstanding performance despite its age.

    Making WR250F Street Legal

I have a 2007 WR250F that I'd like to make street legal in North Carolina. I have a few questions: Has anybody else used a WR250F as a dual sport? If so how is the reliability and should I be okay with highway usage? I'd imagine the motor could handle it but maybe a bit shakey... Does anybody know how strict the DMV will be on registering my bike? It already has a headlight and tail light but it does not have a high beam and low beam switch, and I don't know if I have to replace the tailight or if I need blinkers. And obviously I will need a side mirror, horn, and key ignition. Not to mention I need DOT approved tires. I love this bike and have taken it on several trails accross the country and have done some street riding on ATV approved roads but I have had minor problems where they require a registered vehicle. If anybody has been through this process before I'd appreciate some advice or information, or if this is even worth it because of the cost just to register it.
  5. My 2007 WR250F has been starting with no problems with the electric start. I just ran the bike Saturday and towed the bike from North Carolina to Colorado Sunday and Monday. Today, I went to start the bike and the electric start was not working. I just charged my battery a couple months ago because the battery died. Could it be the change in temperature? I kick started it and after several kicks it started, but when I press the button for the electric start it just never turns on. The fact that it starts rules out a bad spark plug. This is probably as simple as just needing a new battery but I figured I'd ask just to see what other people had to say.

    When does a WR450 overheat?

As long as you have the right amount of coolant and your not over revving the bike it should be fine. I have a 2007 WR250F and I never worry about it over heating as dirt bikes are designed to ride on rough conditions. Other than that, don't ride too much and fast on the road but your WR450 is a solid road bike, but usually I see WR250F's on road more.

What should a fork leak fix cost?

If I was old enough to buy beer I would definetly do that. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to see what I feel like doing soon, I might try to learn now so I understand how to do it when it happens again in the future, but I won't be able to fix it for another couple weeks.

    looking for a bike.

I am the same height and I have a WR250F. It is reliable, parts are easy to find and relatively cheap, and it has electric start, a head light, and a tail light straight from factory. Not only that, but a used one would easily fit your price range.

What should a fork leak fix cost?

If I was old enough to buy beer I would definetly do that. However, maybe I should really try this myself. It does seem hard to do but I don't want to waste money on this. Anybody else do this and if so how long did it take?
  10. I have a fork seal leak how much should it cost to fix? I don't think I'm going to do this project myself as it seems pretty complex to fix. I have a WR250F.

How much sidewall tire damage is too much?

I accidently got a little paint on my tires and had to scrub it off.

How much sidewall tire damage is too much?

It is definetly the cause no doubt because I scrubbed my tires not too long ago after my last ride and I didn't see anything on the tires. I might give her a ride now and see what happens.

    YZ250F VS CR125

I would say both. When I went into the dealership to take a look at the YZ250f the dealer told me he was scared of that bike. I honestly believe that the YZ250f is very reliable and quick despite its lack of horsepower. I have heard more good things than bad from owners of the bike. Mostly opinions, but I'd do more research and go with what your gut tells you to do.

    Am I ready for a 250

I had this exact same problem at your age and debated on upgrading to a YZ250f or not. If you are a skilled enough rider then upgrade. A 250 four stroke does not have as much power as I anticipated. You are a little short, but you might grow more and with enough skill you should be fine as long as you could touch the ground. Also, I would not suggest getting a YZ250f for your first bike as they are mostly designed for motocross and definetly pack a lot of power for a 250. I decided to get a WR250F which is similar but is easier to control. Remember, skill is the most important factor not the size of the dirt bike.
