So I recently got a 2007 drz400sm. 39mm fcr mx carb, mrd exhaust. 3 teeth down
in the back, 11,800 miles, definitely used for racing (had the stickers) and what not. I should have had someone more mechanically inclined to look at it, but I didn't. Put 600 miles on it and didn't really go on freeway. Changed the oil (didnt clean filter) and put about another 150 miles on it, all good.
So I drove it the 40 miles to rowher flats with my girlfriend on the back. On the way back home I was cruising at 75( I was being gentle with the bike on freeway) and had only been on freeway for a few mins. i noticed the power seemed to go down and the throttle response wasnt much there. within a few seconds it started sounding different and i think I could hear a faint rattling noise almost like a chain sound and then the engine just bogged and then bang 😭😭😭 We were probably going almost 50 still when the rear locked and we skid all the way to a stop on the median. I probably should have pulled in the clutch when it bogged but didnt. a bunch of white smoke poured out of the exhaust and I couldnt get bike to roll or shift the lever into neutral or any gear. So had to get a tow. When I tried to start it, there is just a click sound. I think the previous owner mentioned the cam chain needed replacing soon. Any opinions on the damage? I'm in West Hollywood if anyone can help. Thanks
