    1000

I agree that they did a good shot on the coverage but if I had to see the same ads one more time I was going to shoot myself in the face. Man it reminded me how much I miss going to the races every year down there. It's always cool to see the average, everyday guy out there just going for it.

got up at 5:00am to watch the motorcycles start. Been drinking beer ever since!

    Will I be happy?

That pretty much sounds like the riding I will be doing. Down here it's lots of wide open dirt roads. I will be on pavement but not for only about twenty miles on a long stretch. I'm probably going to throw a lowering link on just to get an extra inch. Thanks for the input.

    New 450 Motors

Thanks for the input guys. It sounds like they have worked out kinks since I was riding them. It's kind of a toss because I know the XR will be solid but I feel I'm going to miss the weight, handling, and speed of the X. Oh, and of course the button is always nice too. Now that I'm a little older kicking them doesn't sound like fun anymore.

    New 450 Motors

I'm getting back into riding after a few years off and I'm weighing out a lot of options in choosing my new ride. I'm bouncing between and old XR400 or a newer KTM 2T but leaner towards the good ole' thumper. I moved from Cali to Costa Rica several years ago and my last two bikes were 05 and 07 450Xs for riding desert. My question is have things with the motors changed significantly in the last six years or so. Point being with maintaining the valves etc. I remember many days and lots of dollars to keep my bikes running smooth and wanted to ask if maybe the newer motors are a little less temperamental. I realize it will never compare to an XR motor but I'm considering an X for the type of riding I will be doing here. Any info or personal experiences would be really helpful. Looking forward to getting back up to speed and getting in the dirt again.

    Will I be happy?

I have been searching the internet every night looking for pics of 400s to picture in my mind how I want to put it together. Everyone agrees on the Mikuni upgrade as well as springs. Race Tech? Any advice? BTW guys if you haven't checked out 400yzturbo's videos of his build on Youtube do it now! I watched them last night drooling on the screen.čśĚ

    Will I be happy?

I thought about the DRZ but it's liquid cooled. It can be pretty desolate down here between these little town and I feel like that's just one more thing that could break and leave me stranded.

    300 EXC Dual Sport?

Thanks for all the info guys. I guess now what I end up with will come down to availability and how much money I'm willing to spend.

    300 EXC Dual Sport?

What kind of speed could I get on the 300? I'm wondering if it would be too hard on the engine once I'm on the road. Will the type of riding that I mentioned above shorten the window of time on a rebuild?

    300 EXC Dual Sport?

Just wondering if anyone out there rides a 300 as a dual sport. I'm fortunate enough to live in a place where I can plate a 25/300 EXC and wanted to know how it would handle a 25 mile pavement commute to the trails. I think I have my heart set on a Honda XR400 but I have had heard so much good stuff about the KTM 2T that it has me thinking. I have always ridden big 4Ts but thought I might want to make the switch. Also how is the maintenance costs and reliability? Any info would be much appreciated guys.

    Will I be happy?

Thanks for the input. I've got a lot of time in the saddle on a lot of different bikes except the 400. I'm riding some pavement but mostly hard pack dirt roads are my daily scoot. Looking forward to blasting down some of those roads and kicking up some dust on the XR. I'm thinking of adding a lowering link and maybe trimming down the seat if need be.

    Will I be happy?

BTW guys if anyone is ever interested in coming down my way for a ride let me know. I'd be happy to help out with information and getting you pointed in the right direction. I think the 400 will be a good for my location, and style of riding. I'm looking forward to shopping for one now!

Are this forks off of a CRF? Could you enlighten me a little on Gordon mods? Sorry I'm just not familiar.
