    2009 YZ450f Hard start issues

Good to know! I think this one will run for years. The engine has very little wear. The previous owner just made a mistake. His loss, my gain at a good price.

If it were not my bike, I would. The cam is in good shape, just had to move two teeth over. I understand a press fit is solid to a point, enough force can move it. and it has, yet it is still a solid fit. I am going to run with it. I know if it did fail, it can cause catastrophic engine damage. I am just confident that this press fit part is not damaged, only moved due to excessive force.

I agree, the initial cause would be improper clearance of the cam cap, probably seized during a run, spun the cam, then jumped a tooth on the cam chain causing the valves to bend. Took many hours to repair the cam and cam cap on the exhaust side. The clearances are good now, and the bike runs perfect. Just having a cam that had actually spun on the sprocket is a first for me. Thanks for all the input, at the very least it made me double and triple check what I had done, and also to look beyond normal assembly procedures. So thanks again for any and all input. The bike starts first kick hot or cold.

Set tight of course. The cam had obviously slipped even though it is press fit. I imagine it was under quite a bit of force when the previous owner bent the valves. Like I said it runs perfect with the chain 2 teeth off its mark. The cams look like they are in the proper spot now. Not my first rodeo setting cams, however this is the first time I had marks that didn't line up properly. I always double check true top dead center also using a plastic rod through the spark plug hole.
