To buy or not to buy. 1974 Yamaha MX 360

Your right, all I want is a project. I've already restored 2 bikes and I loved it. I just want more out of it than I will have in it. Of course, I will keep it and ride it. But in case I ever have to sell it I want at least SOME profit.

I can easily get my hands on more money to fix it. I just need someones professional opinion to show my parents. NADA says $5,000 restored. So probably $3,000 if I restore it?

I'm only 15 years old and $650 is all I have. Is it THAT worth it? If I buy it I will restore it.
  7. I just found a 1974 yamaha mx360 for sale by me. Its 90% complete and turns over with good compression but makes no spark. Tank has no dents, plastics arent cracked. The rest of the bike is rusty. But all there. The guy wants $650. Should I cough up the money and buy it? I know it's rare but is it worth it?

The SINGLE most reliable 2 stroke dirt bike ever made?

Did the pre-89 air cooled kdx have these issues too? Because those didnt have a power valve and still make plenty of power.

    1978 YZ400 project

Hello, my name is Nick. I'm a 15 year old who just traded his old, beat-up warrior 350 for a complete, non-running 1978 YZ400. I know enough to know that this is one if the best years of the YZ400. I'm going to do a complete restoration of this bike starting with the engine. It kicks over but has no compression. That being said, it is ridiculously hard to kick over and I hear a grinding sound. I just took the jug off and the piston is old and beat up but looks like it would run. The jug looks good too. The rod is not broken and the crank looks intact as well. Even with the jug off it dosent want to turn over. It looks like I can buy all the parts to rebuild the bottom end. I just dont know where to start. I know I'm gonna have to split the cases but I would like the help of all you people with more experience than me. I'm thinking the bottom end bearings are shot but what do you guys think?

The SINGLE most reliable 2 stroke dirt bike ever made?

Then you need to decide to either buy a 4 stroke trail bike or get good at turning wrenches. I'm not afraid of that, I have already done the top end on my yz80 and my friends kx125. I'm only 15 so I dont have a lot money. Top ends are expensive! That's why I would rather do top ends every 2 years or so.

The SINGLE most reliable 2 stroke dirt bike ever made?

Thanks for all the feedback guys. With your help and about 20 hours of streight reaserch I have decided on a kdx200. I have my sights on a super clean 94' and if that falls through a 97'.

The SINGLE most reliable 2 stroke dirt bike ever made?

I live in washington so I can only ride about 8 month out of the year. I ride about 1-2 hours a day on average
  14. Alright enough bullcrap. I'm gonna buy a two stroke because they are fun. I'm gonna ride it everywhere including the track. Performance aside, what is the single most reliable 2 stroke dirt bike EVER made? Is their any bike that I wont have to put a top end in every year? (Assuming I'm not an idiot who overrevvs it everywhere.)

    1987 Yamaha warrior starter sticking?

Alright, this warrior is kicking my butt. If it's not one thing its another, rear end, carb, cam, rear end again, and now starter! The other day my starter decided it didn't want to disengage. I know this because I tried to start it using my pull cord for no reason. When I pulled I could the starter turning over with the engine. The quad also makes a soft "clunk" that a starter makes when you stop turning the engine over every time I shut it off. It is obviously the starter but I have no idea what to do. I have never had this issue before. I'm also 15 years old and flat broke so is there any way I can fix my starter without buying a new one?
