  1. It's the e-start that I want. The 220's can be a tough kick for a small beginer.
  2. I currently have XR200 Poweroll bored and stroked to 220cc. This engine is mounted in the BBR aluminum kit frame. I want to detune this bike for my wife and trade this engine with someone who has one of the newer CRF150 engines with e-start. My question is, are the mounting positions the same.

XR200 tranny experts please read this !!!

I would have to remove/damage the bearing to see if their is a number on the other side. Problem is, their is one roller missing, I think It fell out during cleaning of the case. Other than that it looks OK to use so I don't want to try and pull it out and damage it in case I can't source this bearing. It's a caged needle bearing with a ground outside lipped race that is pressed into the case. It measures 15 ID x 23 OD x 13 W. I could probably go to 14 on the width. I can't find anything on the NTN site and don't know where else to look? Help......... I don't want to be forced to buy the whole case. Kelly
  4. I need the needle bearing for the right end of the countershaft on a 86-2002 XR200. It doesn't show up on any of the fiche. I had my dealer call Honda and they don't have an answer. I checked the NTN and SKF bearing websites and they don't list that size. Does anyone have any knowledge on this ? Do I have to buy the whole right side crankcase half??? Surely Honda wouldn't make you buy it to get the removable bearing. Kelly
  5. After five years of racing my my BBR framed Powroll 220 kitted XR, I've decided that I'm getting tired of rebuilding the transmission every second year, so I'm going to put her out to pasture for the wife and kids to ride. Don't get me wrong I love this little bike and it won me some races in the vet classes against bikes with three times the horsepower, but it has its limitations. What I want to know is the availability of a lower compression piston (66.5mm I think) so it will be easier to start and more reliable. I've had the starting issues and had to replace the starter gears and it also is doesn't like to fire up when it's really hot. I'm thinking that lowering the compression would help these issues the most. If anyone knows if this product is available let me know. Kelly

    xr200 tranny problem

It could be the clutch basket. I've filed the grooves out once already. What year parts do I order to get the ball bearing shift drum. I may also sacrifice the lever mounted comp. release and go back to the CR lever. What lever is it that gives you 13mm at the lower lever ? Kelly

    xr200 tranny problem

Thanks Al for your response after such a long delay on my part. I'll do the check but I lost third gear again racing this weekend. So it's tear down time once again anyways. I'll check for a bent shaft and the rest when I have it apart. This is the third time I've had to do this. I can't get the needed power/reliability out of this motor running in these 2 hour plus races on these mountain trails. Might be time to try something else. Kelly

    KLX300 kick start lever

Correct me if I'm wrong but did I read somewhere here that the KLX kick lever would fit on the XR200 spline shaft ??? I searched and couldn't find anything. Can someone answer this. Kelly

    xr200 tranny problem

"Mine shifts well now, except that it doesn't like to drop into 1st, and has that "bound-up" feeling on the lever, like it should move further, but wont [into 1st}." That's it in a nutshell. Racing was going well until last year. I had a few wins in Vet class and with the exception of the shifting and the big rocky hills up here in the mountains the little bike keeps up fine against the 450's. Believe it or not I holeshot regularly but it's a challenge to keep the front end down on the big rough hills, that's where the bigger bikes get me. I run synthetic, usually Mobil 20/50. It doesn't matter what brand or even if it's a synthetic blend. I change my oil every 3 or 4 rides. But I have noticed that the problem seems to be less when the oil is not fresh, on the 2nd or third ride. I used the CR80 assembly with heavy duty springs to start. Then I put on the XR650 assembly with the extra lever so I could set up the compression release manually, which is what I'm still using. It's an 88 lower end with a powroll 220cc bore/stroke kit. I had to replace 3rd gear a couple of years ago and the starter gear on a different occasion, things looked very good. That's when I changed the plate and shaft even though they showed almost no wear.. I didn't notice a bend in the shaft and every thing looked fresh ?? Yes I think that was me, always looking for new Ideas. Racing last year was not good. Broken leg in April, separated shoulder/ strained back on the first race back in July. But thanks for askin. xr200 tranny problem

What, you mean you can't read my mind ??? Yes, "replaced" is the missing word. Brand new. It's possible the shifter is not going to the bottom, it's hard to say, but when it happens it feels like it is jammed or binding and at or near the bottom. Seems to happen when the engine's hot and I beleive only when going down int first. If you let it rev down and shift slow it usually shifts ok. Or let it rev down and apply steady downward pressure it pops in. I put these parts in three seasons ago and yes I've crashed since but it was binding the first ride after replacement. I've been x country racing this engine mounted in a BBR frame for the last four years with this problem. It jams about a dozen times in a 2 hour race, I've learned to live with it. But it can sure piss me off at times. So any advice would be appreciated. Kelly

    xr200 tranny problem

I've had the same problem on my 88 XR200. I've had the cases split on a few XR's in the past. So I the star and plate but it still doesn't like shifting down into first under hard riding. It solidly bottoms out like there is nothing there. I couldn't see anything else wrong so maybe their's a slight bend in the shaft ? Kelly
