  1. I am getting new tires of my '81 XT500 and really like the Anakee profile, but not sure that the size available will fit. I am running a 4.60/18 Bridgestone TW302 on the rear right now but want to replace it with the Anakee Wild 130/80. 120/90 is not available. The 4.60 clears without a problem even under load. Does anyone run a 130/80? (note - the photo is a generic shot of the Anakee Wild) Thanks, Eric

    XT500 speedo reset

Hi there.....I just did a rebuild on my XT and wanted to reset my speedo to 0000.0 can anyone out there tell me how to do this? I started unscrewing the back then thought, hey wait a minute, I don't want to break this thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Eric a couple of 1981 XT's
  8. Guys, I had the feeling that the ignition switch is more like a kill button with a key. Will double check it all today. Thanks for the help. Eric
  9. So guys, I decided to do a thorough cleaning job of the steering head area on my 1981 XT500 and basically disassembled the head light shell and head light brackets, etc, etc, etc. I was careful to be sure that all wires that were connected were put back after cleaning, shining, etc, etc. anyway when everything was put back together, It turns out the ignition switch does not wok, BUT when I say that I mean I can start the bike regardless of whether the key is in the ignition. I even disconnected the ignition leads and the bike still starts........ this also means I can't turn the bike off (except by using the decompression lever) Any ideas what I did wrong? HELP. Eric PS......I also don't have a working headlight, but I think that is due to me dropping it.

    XT500 longer rear shocks?

is 2 inches alot? I was thinking with my fat ass on the bike it will settle a bit. I am just trying to get the rear a little up in the air. i am a tall guy so it will a bit more comfortable to ride as well. Eric
  11. Guys, i am getting ready to replace the old and tired rear shocks on my '81 XT500. are there any other replacement shocks that I can use as a straight swap (with stock swing arm) to raise the tail end a bit. i want to have a slightly higher rear end. I am looking to raise it anywhere from 2-4 inches. what height can I go without any other mods, just rear shock replacement? Thanks in advance. Eric
