  2. Any recommendations for which repair manual is laid out the best? Anybody have a preference. I have typically purchased OEM for my quads, but I see a google search also brought up Clymer and Hayes. What are some opions on which is prefered? I just thought it would be best to ask before I ordered. Thanks.

  4. I also ordered a pair of Seal Savers this morning. I have always run shock covers on my quads without this problem. I am hoping that the Seal Savers will add a bit of protection above the Dust seals.
  5. I am a recent convert from quads to Motorcycles. I have recently purchased a 2001 CR250, and spent my first Dune season on 2 wheels. The CR has breathed new life into my dune trips. The magic of the CR has also lead another Dune buddy to put his quad up for sale in hopes of getting a 2-wheeler before next Dune season. As I prepared the toys for the upcoming Easter Trip, I noticed a glint of fluid on the rim of the front wheel. I thought that the kids had spilled a juice box while playing in the garage that day. I looked around quickly for leaks, saw nothing, and just wiped up the small puddle. I returned a day later and found new puddle glistning in the fluoresent light, Dam! Being new to Off-Road Motorcycles, I was unaware of the requirements to keep the fork seals cleaned on a regular basis. (My road bikes never had a leaking seal, ever.) I had just assumed that the seal was on the end of its life cycle, and I happened to be the owner when it gave up the ghost. I was not looking forward to tearing the forks apart prior to the trip, but I did want to check TT to see what I was possibly in for. After a quick search, I came across the fork seal cleaning method. (I first chose the tear-off method.) Sweet, I went out to the garage and try as I might I could not get the tear-off to get underneath the seal. It was late, and I decided to try some more searches before I continued trying to Jam an object into my Fork's seal. The next day I took some more time to research the Fork seal cleaning method. After being directed to a CRF450 fork seal replacement post, I realized that I was previously working on the dust seal, and basically had NO idea what I was doing. I was now glad that I had stopped and continued my research. Later in the day I went out into the garage with my new found Knowledge. This time "Armed" with the .004 Feeler gage method. I started the project this time by removing the Dust Seal. This was a small victory, and I was feeling cocky from my new found knowlege. Once the Dust seal was down and out of the way, the .004 feeler gage was able to fit right in the Oil seal. I cleaned the seal several times until the presence of grit subsided. I was really surprised with the amount the sand that I was removing from the seal lip. It must have been the several low side dismounts I experienced during my first season in the Dunes. So, Thanks to all of you TT'ers that take the time to post your knowlege. This saved my Easter trip, and what I assumed would have been a big project of pulling the forks apart to replace a faulty seal. Luckycharlie.
  6. I would put my money on the pilot jet / idle circuit being clogged. Did you remove the pilot jet and soak the carb body for awhile? Could you see clear though the Pilot jet after you were done cleaning? Let us know what you find.
  7. That is a great idea. I forgot that pantyhose were the Original Outerwears! I will get that setup before my next dune trip.
  8. I pulled the carb last night, and reset the floats to 16mm. They were not off too far though. I was surprised to see the amount of sand that was in the float bowl. This carb was brand new and has only been on the bike for 3 dune trips. The bike has an inline fuel filter that does on appear to have any sand in it. I am wondering if the sand is getting into the carb by the 4 Vent Hoses. Has anyone else experienced this same problem with a Keihn PWK airstriker? Is there some method for routing the breather hoses so that sand/dirt can be eliminated/lessened? Right now the vent hoses run down the shock tunnel in the swingarm, and basically just hang there about 1 - 2 inches below the bottom of the swingarm. I am now kinda assuming that the "Bog" could also have been coming from sand blocking the pilots jets? Although there was no sand blocking the pilot or main jets when I pulled and cleaned the carb. Any information about improving the breather hose routing would be appreciated. Thank you in advanced.
  9. Thanks for the input, I will check them this week. The Sudco website has the PWK's 38 with a float height at 16mm. Is this the desired height, or have others experimented and found different float settings that are prefered? Any input will be appreciated.
  10. On the last 2 trips to the dunes my CR250 seems to be loading up, "bogging" once I land from a jump. If I rev it up while in the air, it will not always bog. While riding normally, the bike seems to be jetted good. Bike barely smokes once warm, kicks right aways, nice throttle responce, and idles fine. I was thinking that the floats may be too high, but I was not too sure. The bike will sometimes drop a little fuel out the overflow tube when I pull it off the bike stand, but it does not run out like there is a stuck float. I am running the Keihn pwk38 airstiker carb, and do not know the jetting. The carb was purchased and pre-jetted from Carb parts warehouse, and other than moving the needle down 1 position, I have not changed the jetting. Has any one else experienced this "bogging" off of a jump problem, and found a solution? Any recomendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
