  1. Now whilst I understand what traction control can do, I don't see how traction control would work on a MX track. What when you want to steer with the rear? What when you need to loft the front wheel? What when you need a panic rev mid-air ? It's not like traction control knows when and where not to activate. Anyone read or have any insight on KTMs new traction control ??
  2. Suppose it depends why you need different linkage. A really fast pro will use a different linkage to a slower rider. Track also makes a difference. There is no better linkage generally. There's only the right one for required performance.
  3. I wanted to get a spoke torque kit and 2 separate wheel builders told me not to waste my time and adjust spokes and wheel by feel. Easy said for them .

16 450 FE map setting help

It's all in the owners manual. Admittedly a touch ambiguous.

    2016 450SXF oring chain

Think they got it wrong. Go to the DID chain website and see specs sheet and recommendations. Both chains are 18.7mm wide and x rings. MX and off-road. The VX is marginally stronger, the VT has a slightly longer life.

    2016 450SXF oring chain

Vx2 is the MX chain. Vt2 is the enduro chain. Both narrow x rings. Slightly diff specs.
  7. Have any of you tried the more aggressive throttle cam ? (Black one) The bike comes std with the grey one. Was wondering if it's worth it , or if you could even feel a difference ?

    2016 450xcf Rocker Melted

Is there a breather on the head cover ? Only thing I can imagine is that water got up there. Even then, the insides are oiled so don't see how you get that corrosion.have you checked valves before ? If so was there any corrosion previously?

my intake valve can't be shimmed. Why?

Most probably the air filter was not properly seated at some point and the dirt chewed up the seats. This is a common problem. Ktm 1190 adv do it regularly due to bad design. The sx/xc filters can be slightly rotated and not seat correctly. This is why ktm redesigned the filter system on the 16. Air filter and oil maintenance are imperative to the life of our motors. I have a friend who has run 120 hours, mostly sand before a engine refresh. Surprisingly all was still kinda ok. But he is a pedantic maintenance guy.

    AER 48 Fork failure

Thanks. So in truth there are no appreciable failures and it has been blown out of proportion in proper internet fashion. I remember when 4 strokes arrived. There was a big resistance. Now it's a 4 stroke only in the national races. What's the bet , in a few years all will run air only. When they perform optimally of course.

    AER 48 Fork failure

Are there any European forums that discuss this ? They been running AER for a year almost. Must be over 1000 bikes out there .USA got 4cs last year. Europe bikes came with AER.
  14. Thanks for info. I'll physically check as I strip bike for race prep this weekend. Vin no has no recalls.
  15. Just got my new fe450. Do we have the new bracket for the capacitor ? Does anyone know ?

KTM blown fuse = broken leg

Are you 100% sure. Just got my new fe 450 today. Still in the box. Will be stripping for prep so will check .if I knew what to look for?
  17. So here's the thing that's been bothering me; I've been riding MX consistently for 40 years. I don't race anymore as I don't like ER rooms much .I do ride every week though . I try ride with a reasonable amount of caution. I consistently still do all the big doubles or tabletops etc. I'm definitely not the fastest rider around, but would probably go unnoticed in the middle of a senior regional race. My neck has semi crushed cushions between the vertebrae from years of impact. I regularly suffer from sore stiff neck. The chance of a big get off might put me horizontal for a long time. At my age I just won't heal like a 20 or 30 year old. (I'm 50 btw) My choices are simple. 1)Slow down completely. Lay off the big stuff. 2)pack it in . Forever. Very sad thought indeed. 3)just keep riding until I just can't take the pain anymore. I get regularly told that at my age I should find more sedate hobbies/sports. But, MX has always been my sport. So what ya all say ? And just remember, if you keep riding you'll be faced with this same decision one day too .
  18. For interest sake, looking at the microfiche , the factory plastics are only sold as mold in graphics. So if you have a sticker FE , you'd have to replace the complete plastic set ( eg. shrouds are sold in pairs) and not just a decal. Not a big deal i guess. The wait for my 450FE is torture. I left the 450 gang in 2007 after a 2 year tango. Went back to 2 strokes .Been on YZ and SX 250s ever since. Had a 16 350sx for a very short while. Felt slow, but was probably the way the power is delivered and the fact I was riding it wrong. Time for the 450. It's going to be a big adjustment .
  19. Thanks. lets see if mine arrives with molded in. Now I know what to look for.
  20. Are you saying the mold in stickers are only on these parts ;Front fender , shrouds, rear fender. So side covers air box are stickers ?
  21. Thanks. Let us know how it goes. Congrats .
  22. Mine is arriving in a few weeks. Which plastics parts should have molded in decals ? If mine comes with loose stickers I'll just buy molded graphic plastics. Unless ktm is kind enough to swap them out. Which I very much doubt.

    2007 crf450 v yzf450

Paid for my 07crf450 and getting it next week. Bought it on a hunch. I have however been reading alot of good stuff on the YZF450 and am having second thoughts. Too late now I guess. Any of you out there have experience with both?? Last time I owned a honda was about 15 years ago. Dozens of Zooks in the interim, including a RMZ450. Did I make a mistake to go red???????????????

favorite rad guards/braces for off road

I have heard some people rave about the KTM hardparts tubular steel guards. Apparently the are stronger and lighter than the billet BPD. Any advice ? Im in the market for a pair myself.
