    price crf230?

I'm looking at buying this one for my wife, what would you suggest as a fair price to offer? http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/183906669.html Thanks!

    Fork Air

The bleed holes are there to give a neutral air pressure inside the fork. You'd have to be a very heavy rider to compress the fork enough to allow oil out of the bleed hole when opening it while sitting on the bike. However, you'll then have a negative pressure inside the fork, negating the "air spring" effect. This is why you would change the fork oil height, to alter the properties of the "air spring". Think of it like this: when you squeeze the sides of a 2-liter bottle while putting the cap back on, they stay sucked in until you vent the cap and let air in. You're doing the same to your forks when you open the bleed valve while sitting on the bike.

    Fork Air

Actually, the pressure changes due to temperature changes. Fork oil shouldn't evaporate like that, it has to be due to changes in pressure. You may actually be hearing air being sucked in when you check the bike in the morning due to the cooler air being more dense.

    fitting trailtech computer to XR400

Great info, thanks! The pics really help to clarify things. The wife got me the computer for Xmas but didn't know which protector to get with it, so this helps a bit.

    fitting trailtech computer to XR400

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've searched and haven't found a good answer. Which billet mount are you guys using, the top mount, bottom mount, or stock mount? http://www.trailtech.net/billet_dashboards.htm Thanks!

xr400 missing at constant higher rpm's

Definitely do one at a time! Personally, I'd probably try the 158 main first, as it's easier than the needle. If that doesn't solve the problem, or you're too lean, then try the needle.

    Teardown for 280 kit.

Wow, in my day we never got paid to go to school!

xr400 missing at constant higher rpm's

If it's better in the morning than at midday, then you are most likely too rich. As the air warms up, it's not as dense, and a rich condition can occur. Cool air is more dense. I have the same problem with my SV650 race bike, the jetting is perfect for my cooler morning races, but my afternoon races it gets too rich and the bike loses power.

xr400 missing at constant higher rpm's

If you move the clip up (needle is lower) then the needle will block the orifice more, and the mixture will be more lean. Lowering the clip (raising the needle) will make the mixture more rich. I'd check the clip position on the needle and see where it's at, can't hurt to move it and give it a try!

xr400 missing at constant higher rpm's

Surging would be a sign of a lean condition, "missing" could be interpreted a couple ways. I'd probably suggest checking/replacing spark plug. If the bike is running too rich, it could be missing. More important than the rpm range, where is your throttle position when the missing occurs? If it runs good at 100% throttle, then your main jet is probably fine, mid-throttle problems would indicated needle adjustment, and low-throttle (cruising along at 10-20% throttle) could be pilot jet, or needle position. Sorry to not have a more definitive answer, perhaps others will have more ideas.

Could you be hitting the rev limiter?

    shipping a bike

I recently had my bike shipped from MI to CO, I had bought it on Ebay. I looked into Forward Air, and they had good prices, and pretty fast shipping, but they needed about 2 weeks lead time. They have a cost estimator on their website. I also looked at Allied Van Lines, they show up in a truck and strap the bike to a custom pallet. More expensive, and would take about 8 days or so. I ended up finding a site called http://www.uship.com where I found a guy who was travelling on vacation and brought my bike to me in the back of his pickup. It saved me about $150 and I had the bike in less 5 days! Hope that helps.

    I stink after riding!

I've got this same problem with the XR I just bought last week. I think it's a White Brothers pipe, though the badge has been removed so I'm not sure. It leaks heavily where the pipe connects to the header. How do you seal that so it doesn't belch fumes? I was thinking of using a sealant like Yamabond or high-temp RTV. Any other ideas?
